If you don't have a carpet cleaner

how do you keep your carpet clean? (rent a carpet cleaner, use a spray, spot clean only, etc.)?

I vacuum probably 4x a week, but for some reason, since seeing that damn commerical showing the baby playing on the floor then the Dad walking around on dirty streets, stepping in a puddle etc, then gets home and walks to the baby (with the filthy shoes on)... we had maintenance here yesterday and he didn't wear booties (we normally take our shoes off), so this commercial plays in my head - what is a good way to clean the carpets?  Do I rent a steam cleaner every six months (or hire a company).... our carpets seem relatively clean but I'm sure if we had them professionally cleaned they'd sparkle and shine more then I'd care to think about. LOL

  • I'd like to know. DH usually goes to publix and rents one every few months it's his job in the house.

  • We just had a service come in and I was amazed at the before/after!  And we DO have a carpet cleaner.  The guy said using a home cleaner actually makes it worse because they aren't strong enough to suck all the soap/dirty water back out.   IDK if he was just trying to sell me on having them back in a few months or what but it made sense to me.  And the carpet looks sooooooooooo much better.
