Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

how many sippy cups did you go thru b4 you found the ONE?

We've tried 2 or 3 and I just got DS a sippy straw one.  He'll drink out of a sippy cup for awhile then he just started gnawing on it (teething), so we tried the Nuby and while he does drink from it, it leaks often.  He likes to drink from a regular cup, but sometimes he just lets it drip out on himself.  The straw one, he hasn't quite figured out yet.

I wonder if I can return the other ones.  Drives me nuts to spend $20 on cups he won't use.  Oh, well. Smile

  • I don't worry too much about getting my kids to drink from a sippy.   I pretty much start with a regular cup.    By the time Natalie was about 13 - 15 months old, she would drink from any straw type sippy cup, so I used those for water.

So, pretty much I went threw one sippy (the trainer) and then straight on to the straw kind.   If they didn't like the one we had, then they drank/drink from a cup.   I don't like playing "guess which sippy cup I like" with my kids:)

  • We are on day 8 of no bottle (hooray!).  We bought 3 different types of sippy cups before we found one that DD would tolerate.  It turned out to be the first one we had bought.  She doesn't like the ones with the straw.
  • I didn't give her options. I just went through the one that use at daycare. I think the transition was easier because of this.

  • I started Matthew out on a The First Years Soothie cup when he was 6 months. It took a few months for him to drink from it. Once he got the hang of drinking from the nipple I switched out the lid to a sippy lid. The cup comes with three lids - 2 nipple lids and one sippy cup lid. He drinks from any soft sippy cup lid. If the lid is had plastic he will not drink from it.

  • We tried the Playtex First Sipsters, Take and Toss, and a Nuby straw cup before she finally figured out the Nuk Learner Cup. It wasn't that she didn't like the others, she just couldn't figure them out. Once she realized what she needed to do to get the liquid out we started using all of the cups interchangeably. She can drink from any cup no problem now and is not picky.

We had about 3 different ones we registered for so I consider those free.  But ended up not really using any of those long term and now just use the Playtex hard nipple ones or the straw ones.  DS can drink from a cup, but I prefer the sippy so he isnt always wet or spilling the liquid to play with it.
  • I can't even count. I think it became a hobby of mine to find the perfect cup:) The one that finally worked was ThinkBaby. It's got a silicone spout and is very close to a bottle so it's a good transition. It also comes w/ a nipple if you want to use it as a bottle first. After a month or 2 I gave him the playtex straw sippy and he figured it out right away.  That's all I use now, I like it because the straw folds down when not using it so it doesn't leak.

  • Ehh...I believe we got through 14 before we found the "one".  I think I bought almost every one that was at Target, Kmart and BRU.  Now he uses them all.  The ones he prefers have handles, i.e. Munchkin, Nuby, Soothie, Playtex.  I think the one was the Nuby with the three lids (nipple, sippy, straw) that pushed him over.  Once he took one we were able to wean the bottle that day.  We started the sippy around 10 months with juice and water.  At a year we really started pushing the cup and realized that he doesn't like juice, not even out of a bottle.  So we put milk in the cup and he took it.  I want to say it was by 13 months that he really took off with the sippy.
