Hungry and Aggressive Baby?

I'm a FTM so I don't know much about the eating habits of infants. Anyway my 2wk old always seems to be hungry, not only that, he sometimes wakes up already moving his mouth for food and is sometimes aggressive when food is near. Its like I can hardly get my boob in his mouth because he's moving around and grabbing for it so much lol.And when it takes to long to get it in, he starts trying to suck his thumb instead. When food is not near, he starts sucking on whatever is-blanket, my hand, his hand, his arm, I thought he was gonna give himself a hickie the other day bc he was sucking his arm so hard when I was trying to prepare to BF.

Anyone else dealt/is dealing with this? Please tell me I'm not the only mom with an aggressive baby. Smile

My LO does this also. Does he shake his head back and forth looking for it?

Its as though you were writing about my LO! Although I FF now, in the beginning we had a really hard time getting him to latch on when I was BF because he was soooo frantic to eat, doing everything you've described. At first, when we were still in the hospital it was kind of cute and funny - the nurses and I would giggle as they were trying to help me get him to latch, and the first time the LC came in she said "Wow! He really is as aggressive as your nurse said he is!" But the cuteness of it slowly wore off once we were home and true sleep deprivation set it. Now that I FF he's just aggressive about getting to the bottle - doesn't matter how I've fed him, the kid is nuts about eating - period! And its been really crazy in the last week since he's had a massive growth spurt since his 2 wk appt - he's gained a full pound and an inch and a half since then. I feel like he's been in a constant feeding frenzy!

Yeah, I call my baby "the hungry hungry hippo". Even when he's not asking to eat... he'll eat if I offer it.

Babies also have a really strong need to suck. They find it comforting. So just because he's sucking in his sleep doesn't mean he's starving! You can't over feed a breastfed baby, so just hang in there and try to keep him happy. It does get better, slowly, as time passes.

For the first few weeks my LO would shake her head aggresively and she would also snort like a pig as she rubbed her face across my boob. Extremely frustrating, especially during nighttime feedings when your patience is nil. It slowly got better and now she doesn't do it anymore. I do miss her cute piggy noises though!

This! Lil man is a ravenous one...I love his crazy snorting, so cute!

He will even go so far as to "eat" DH's hands, neck, shoulder when he is holding him.

Ha I call it her determined face. She is so determined to get that boob! She really doesn't do it anymore though, which is a little sad.

Totally...and if I took the bottle out to burp him he would yell out till it went back in and if I tried to burp him he would then bump his head against my chest/shoulder till I got the bottle back in his mouth. Most of my afternoon feedings were/are like this

Haha! Love this post. My DS does the exact same thing, even now. We call him snarfles because he snarfs his food so quickly and loudly. My favorite is the head shaking thing, especially when he misses and tried to latch on to my knuckles because he is so excited.

Haha these are some really hungry babies. Guess it kinda makes sense though when you think about how they never had to wait for food, probably were always satisfied in the womb and now its a different story.

Our favorite part is how as soon as you put the washcloth (bib) under his chin, he grabs it with both hands and shoves it in his mouth. With a huge grin. And yes, the snarffle noises.

Haha you just described my son! Although he actually did give himself a hickey the other day. I felt horrible about it, but my doctor found it amusing so I stopped beating myself up over it. Now I just keep an eye out for it

My DS did this for the first few weeks. He definitely made the grunting pig-like noises and would shake his head back and forth. He would get a bit aggressive with it and knock the nipple shield off several times. He actually made it land on the table at Applebee's once in front of my MIL! Embarrassing! He is much calmer now at 8 weeks.

My nephew on the other hand could literally eat all day long. He'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and he will suck on anything that touches his mouth. He gave himself a hickey on his arm the other night because he is such an aggressive feeder. He'll suck on his fingers, arms, blankets, my shirts, etc... He can just finish eating and if something touches his mouth, he's right back at it. He's pretty hilarious though. If he doesn't get something in his mouth quick enough he'll grunt and cross his eyes. I can't help but think of one of the 3 stooges when he does that!

Oh yes. Sometimes LO will swing his fist at by breast, make little piggy noises, and then try to suck on his hand, or my arm, or whatever is near by. I've threated to duct tape his hand down to get them out of my way when I'm trying to feed him, lol.
