Yesterday a girl on my BFF's FB posted a bunch of mug shots of people we all went to school with. She did so in a "ha-ha look where they ended up" kind of way. I for one thought that it was a craptastic thing to do. Her defense was that it's public info anyway so what is the harm?

I can see where she would find it funny. But it's almost like pointing and laughing when someone trips and falls. Don't do it.Laugh to yourself. Hurting someones feelings is just not cool.

exactly. On our local paper's web page there is a "mug shots" link. And I look all the time. But I wouldnt do that. I think its crap. Then she had the nerve to "cry" about all the nasty messages she was getting and how people should lighten up since its public info anyway. ::side eye::

It would have been one thing to send the shots in a message, it is another thing to post on someone FB wall so everyone sees it. I think it's rather immature.

There is a lot of info that is technically public info, but I wouldn't want it plastered on FB. She could also list what everyone paid for their houses, as well as addresses and land surveys, since that's all public record, but I don't think it's a good idea.

Foul, for sure. If they wanted to have a laugh about it, do so in a private message or e-mail. Although that is still a crappy thing to have a giggle fest about, it would have been a better option for them.

In bad taste to say the least. First time she got in crap for something, I would so post her pic up.

On that note, my bff was arrested last year for assaulting a police officer while being arrested for public intoxication. Her mugshot was printed in the September muglies.

Tell her there is A LOT of public record out there that is inappropriate to organize and post on FB. For example, what she paid for her home is public record (www.zillow.com makes it super easy) and you could easily go in and post a "scrapbook" of people's houses, how much they paid, whether they owe more than the home is worth, etc.

Just because stuff is public doesn't mean it needs to be made a spectacle through social media. Sounds like she has too much time on her hands.
