I can wear brown and black together, right?

I wanted to get a pink bathing suit top, but they were all sold out, so it had to be brown. The brown is OK, but my bottoms are black...are you not supposed to mix brown and black or am I misremembering here? Maybe it's just shoes? lol

  • I think it used to be unacceptable but now it's for some reason acceptable. I do think belt/shoes should be brown/brown or black/black, but I think that bathing suit will be fine :)

  • Some people will say it's a sin against nature and God. I say it looks good. (And Stacy and Clinton of What Not To Wear agree with me.) They're two neutrals: so they certainly "go." So long as you like it, that's fine.

  • Brown & black together has always drove me insane! Apparently is acceptable though because I have seen several shirts lately with both colors in them. :)
  • I think they definitely go together. Then again I am not a huge fan of things matching. I'll wear a polka dotted bikini top with a plaid bottom....

  • I think you should be fine. You can always pick up some bottoms at old navy/target/walmart that go with the brown if you want to switch it up. I just got a cute purple & black striped bottom to go with an existing black top (had to get a size larger than usual)

  • Traditionally this has been a fashion no-no, but a few years ago (I want to say around 2007-2008) this became a huge trend, and suddenly it became enormously chic to pair a brown belt or boots with a black outfit. My view is that it's OK as long as the brown is brown enough to be easily distinguishable from the black. Actually, my view is more general than that-- if it looks good, do it.

Then I guess I'll just pretend I'm totally chic and fashion-forward ;-) At any rate, it looks about a million times better than the top that actually goes with the bottoms, since it contains my linea nigraed, hairy, shallow belly-buttoned tummy.
