Anyone else fallen?

Hey ladies...... I know it's probably not worth worrying about but I called my OB to be safe and they want me to come in today to see them.

I took a minor fall where I partly landed on my stomach (mostly supported by my hands). I rolled to the side during the fall as much as possible as well to avoid my stomach being impacted. Basically I was being my normal klutz self and last night on the way out to my car I missed a step since it was dark out. I had some cramping last night as well as lightening crotch that seemed to come after the fall, but no blood.

Any of you have similar stories? Hopefully with happy endings..... I was suprised that they wanted to see me instead of just having an OB call me back to calm me down

  • I just wanted to say Good Luck at your appointment! What a scary situation to be in. Luckily the baby is very well insulated with fluid. Good Luck and keep us posted!

  • I'm sorry to hear about your fall. Since you don't have any bleeding and baby is well protected in your tummy, I'm sure everything is okay. I will be thinking of you and your LO!

  • Yes I am very clumsy when I am pregnant! It's really quit rediculous! I will be standing next to someone talking to them and all of a sudden I will lose my balance? It's really crazy.

But with my first I actually fell walking up our stone walking steps which led to our garden and slipped causing myself to land right on the baby. I went into the DR office they sent me to L&R to put baby on the monitors. It went just fine. If you think about it, they have so much fluid around them, that they are sooo protected!!

  • I'm sorry you're going through this.  I'm sure everything is fine, and it's good that you're going to see the OB so you can get peace of mind.  Maybe you just have a conservative OB, which I think is a good thing.  I haven't taken a face plant yet, but I'm super clumsy and this is something I constantly worry about.  The only time I've fallen was when I was hiking with my doggie, and I slipped on some wet rock and landed on my butt so I wasn't really worried.

  • Oh, I hope you're ok (and baby, too, of course)! I fell 2 weeks ago down 5 steps but managed to fall on my back. But that still caused cramps, with no bleeding. Everything is fine. Just a heads up for later on in pregnancy, the muscles in the hips will start to loosen to prepare for birth, that it causes many women to fall. Take care, and I hope all goes well at your appt today!

  • I haven't had a fall yet, surprisingly since I am extremely clumsy normally!  Good luck at your appointment today and keep us posted!  I'm sure LO will be just fine and will keep fingers and toes crossed for you!
  • i fell off of a chair.  i scared myself but the baby is so protected in there.  i also got hit by a wave in the ocean square in the stomach.  went to the doc yesterday and heart is still ticking away.  don't worry :)

  • I have fallen twice! Once I slipped on tile a landed on my knee, the other I slipped and fell down the stairs. I feel like a failure. My ob said everything was fine if there is no bleeding major cramping or clear fluid leaking. Although, she said if it happens again past 24 weeks I am to goto the ER asap. Good luck!

  • I fell when I was pg with ds. I was using a broom to swat a huge bee out the back door, when I slipped on some water from the washing machine. I sort of ended up in a split (8mos pg no less) landing directly on my vag. I was freaking out that I hurt the poor bebe, but really it was just me that was hurt. I did call the doc and he just gave me a list of things to call back if they happen; cramping, bleeding, etc.

Hope you feel better, and fingers crossed that everything is just fine!!

  • I've had a few really close calls. I've since retired all of my heels and wedges unless they are super sturdy with ankle straps.  Good luck at the DR. I'm sure you are fine!

  • I'm sorry to hear about your fall. I fell early on (around week 8) when I was carrying a couple of moving boxes (they weren't heavy) - everything was fine but it did sort of shake me up. My older sisters were both there to watch it happen too (who have, ever since I was little, told me to "slow down" - now that I'm pregnant they are even more watchful, haha) which sort of added to the drama and worry of the whole thing. I think that since it happened I've been more careful (*knocks on wood*).

  • I think around 7 weeks, I was reading a book in bed and my husband ran and did like a "flying squirrell jump" right on top of me and my stomach. It was like for a brief moment in time he forgot that I was pregnant or it didn't cross his mind when he decided to jump on me. I was shocked. I looked at him like "are you stupid or something?" He felt so bad and could not believe that he did that. I know this is completely different than falling, but I was really freaked out about it and worried. My doctor said that there is so much cushion for the baby and they are so safe inside of us. She told me not to worry unless I was doubled over and bleeding. I hope everything is ok with you and the baby!

  • I fell down 5 stairs onto a hardwood landing when I was 37 weeks pg with DD.  Hurt my hands and knees pretty bad, but was fine otherwise.

My sister's foot slipped off her sidewalk and she slid down a 8 foot hill on her belly when she was 38 weeks and was totally fine besides some scrapes.

I would check with the doctor, but the baby is pretty cushioned.

  • Ouch, I'm sorry for the scare. I'm sure everything is fine though, You did fall at a good time. Very early and very late pregnancy are the worst times to fall. I did fall twice within the first 5 weeks, before I even knew I was pregnant, landed on my butt and flat on my back, one of them was off of a stool! There was much a$$ chewing over the person who knocked me over because they knew I might be pregnant. I was pissed, but all turned out well.
