Early birds

I am totally not going to complain since DD is sleeping a zillion times better than where we were 2 months ago, but she gets up at 5-5:30 every.single.morning.  There is no getting her back to sleep.  I tried putting her to bed later and she got up at 4 am instead, guess that will teach me to try to get her to sleep in.   I'm thinking about trying to transition to a later bedtime really slowly but she has a really hard time staying up even until 7:30 most nights, some nights she even crashes at 6:30.  She usually only takes one nap for 1-1 1/2 hrs.  I was just curious what time you put LO to bed and what time they get up?

Re: Early birds

  • We put DD to bed at 8 every night and she is up without fail the next morning at 7:15(sometimes I get lucky and it's 7:30).  We have tried putting her to bed later, but that's her schedule and she's sticking to it.  It also doesn't matter if she has a nap during the day or not, which now she usually doesn't.  She decided naps were for the birds at around 18 months.  We got spoiled because she used to take two naps a day for several hours.  I can't complain too much though b/c she has always slept through the night, and I'm thankful for that.

  • She is in bed by 7:15 and is up between 5:30-6:00.  Of course when my mom watches her, she sleeps until 8.  I don't get it.

  • We are the opposite of early birds. Most nights, the boys aren't in bed until 10pm; however, they (usually) sleep until 8:30-9am. Since we are lucky enough not to *have* to be anywhere early (read: before 10am) in the mornings, it just works for us.

I know you didn't ask, but here are the boys' nap schedules, as well:

    J - (typically) naps from 2-5pm

    W - (typically) naps from 12-2pm and 4-6pm

Just a thought, but maybe work on moving her nap schedules, first, thus adjusting (pushing back) her overall sleep pattern a bit?

  • If  you figure it out, let me know!  Leo is up before 6 every morning.  Max on the other hand is an angel and sleeps till 630/7 every morning.

I wish I could move her nap, but since my mom keeps her we can't move it later because she takes DD to go pick up my nephew at school.  That and DD actually asks for her nap between 10 and 11 am.  It's pretty hard to keep her up without meltdowns.  I also afraid to mess too much with her sleep since she STTN somewhat now, I'm scared to death to screw it up, lol.

B goes to bed between 8:30 and 9 most nights.  Sometimes it's closer to TTT's schedule...  DH doesn't have to be anywhere most mornings, so it works.  He consistently wakes up around 8:30.  Some days we're super lucky and get 9:30... but this happens rarely.
  • DS seems to sleep later when we put him to bed earlier!

Doesn't make sense, but it's how he works. Maybe try it out. For example, he usually goes to sleep around 9 or 9:30 and wakes around 8:30, but when we've gotten him asleep before 8:30 he typically sleeps until at least 9 or 9:30 :)

This is a super early nap.  If she gets up at 5 and goes to bed at 7, it is pretty much halfway through her day...

C gets up around 7, but on the weekends, she will stay in her crib and read until 8.  (And I really really really hope she still does this after we move her to a big girl bed this weekend!)  She naps 12:30-2:30 and goes to bed between 8 and 8:30.

I would try to adjust her schedule really slowly, like in 5 minute increments, over a period of time... but she will still most likely have "off" days where she sleeps in or gets up early.  I like sticking to a routine and schedule, but I also want DD to learn to be flexible enough to stay out late sometimes or have her nap later if we have a busy day.  That being said, I have pretty much had an easy sleeper, so I might have changed my way of thinking if DD wasn't sleeping through the night.  GL!
