2nd Trimester

1st Tri testing...

I know this a topic that gets a lot of posts.  I'm kind of bummed I didn't get to do first tri testing.  My dr. dropped the ball on that one - told me 2 days before the last day I could do it.  By the time they called to schedule an appt, it was too late.

Debating whether or not to get second tri testing since I don't have first tri to compare to...or whatever they do with the info.

Anyone not get the testing?

Re: 1st Tri testing...

  • I was originally 4 weeks off with my dates due to a clot that bled when my period was due at 4 weeks.  I didn't figure out that I was pregnant until 8 weeks and then we didn't have a dating u/s until almost 12 weeks.  My doctor didn't offer any first tri screening but I didn't ask about it either.  I did get the blood work done for the quad screen when I went in for my 14 week appointment so I would have some idea of odds.

  • I didn't get it, but it had more to do with the fact that we would have had to pay some out of pocket and since we don't have any of the risk factors, just thought the extra money would end up causing more worry.  I'm not sure about the 2nd tri screening.  If insurance pays for it we will do it, but if it doesn't, we'll pass.

We opted not to do any testing.  My insurance doesn't cover it and I have read so much about how often there are false positives (testing says somethings wrong when there isn't) that I just didn't think I needed the extra worry.  Dr hasn't been concerned by anything they have seen in the ultrasounds, so I'm just going off that.
  • if your insurance pays for the 2nd tri testing than i'd do it.  there are so many things they check out and it's better for the Dr.'s to have the whole picture.  plus, it's so fun to see the little one bouncing around in there! good luck.
