Just saw the trailer for Breaking Dawn with Bella & Edward's full names: Isabella Marie & Edward Anthony Masen (this spelling). Do you think Marie, Anthony, & Mason will jump in popularity now? Yes, I know Marie is already a filler middle name that's used A LOT. Thoughts on the names?
Re: Bella & Edward's Full Names (Twilight)
Who are these soon-to-be mothers that are reading Twilight??? I just don't understand. Kids these days.
::slowly shuffles out of post using walker::
I have a 7 year old and I've read the books and watched all of the movies so far... Who cares? It was entertaining.
That's funny! I feel this way too...
Don't feel bad, I knew this too
Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it. I swore that I would never be into that stuff. Well, I decided to watch the first one and was instantly sucked in and I am 31. It's not just for kids. Mindless? yes. Entertaining? Def!
Go Phils!!
i'm a total twilight nerd, too. i think the popularity of the character's names in real life is actually king of refreshing. the character's names are classic (isabella, edward, emmett, alice, rosalie, jasper, jacob, etc.) esme is my guilty pleasure name
sidenote: a mom at our daycare has a sticker on her back window that says "i drive like a cullen." i would totally have one on our car if my husband would let me!
I was hugely anti-Twilight, until my sister got the first book for Christmas. I'm more of a reader than she is so I borrowed it out of boredom, and within the next day I was at the store getting the rest of the books! It just sucks you in! I watch the movies even though they just make me angry because of the bad casting and bad acting. Robert P is gross.
What makes me look like an even bigger nerd is my #1 girl name is Esme, which is the mom's name. But I first saw and loved it in the Anne of Green Gables series, so it doesn't count! Lol
I get what you mean but I read all the books after my 60 year old mom reccommended them to me! It was before the movies came out and all the teeny-bopper hoopla that resulted from them... but still. They were entertaining books and while Edward Cullen does NOTHING for me, Jacob Jankowski is HOT (Water for Elephants).
The kind of people who would name their children after Twilight characters will not name their children after little-recognized middle names. For instance, Edward hasn't moved.
The thing is, the names might have gotten a little bump due to twilight making them more noticeable (names like Rosalie and Esme, especially) but the REAL issue is that Stephenie Meyer, the author, NAMED these characters very trendy names -- names that are popular among name nerds. She is on record saying that Bella is what she'd have named a daughter if she had one. Alice, Emmet, Jasper, Jacob, Victoria -- all very trendy (in the "classic" trend that also gave us Olivia, Ava, etc.) names.
You see this a lot in novels. Other popular YA novels have characters named Grace, Scarlett, Lia, Ever, Riley, Max, Ashlyn, Mia, Evie, Philippa.... the list goes on and on. The names aren't popular because they're used in YA novels. They're used in YA novels because they're popular.
wow your 7 year old read breaking dawn? Complete with the birth scene and their "first time" wooow.

She didn't necessarily say her 7 year old read the books. Just that she has a 7 year old. Maybe to hint at her age??
But if her 7 year old DID read them, then I agree... WOW.
She said she has a 7 year old to show her age, not that the 7 year old read the books...
On another note, I don't think it will have any affect on the popularity of the names, especially since they are middle names in the series and already popular before the books.
