Pregnant after 35

Anyone Flying This Summer?

We are traveling next week. I made sure to get a note from my OB that said I'm 'safe to fly'--I had a friend who traveled last month and said the security agents gave her a hard time about getting on board as she looked "very pregnant"--?!!! What a crock! So she told me, "Get a doctor's note...just to be safe." Has it gotten harder to fly in 2nd trimester due to all the airline stuff going on? Anyone else traveling? Anyone else have any issues? I'll be 20-21 weeks during the trip.

  • I flew until 24 weeks.  I didn't have any issues at all.  My doctor grounded me at my 27 week appointment because I fly across the country with work and she didn't want me making the long trips any more.  Up until then, I flew and didn't have anyone give me a hard time or even give me strange looks.  Have fun on your trip!

  • I've flown a lot throughout this pregnancy without any problems. To give you an idea, between weeks 22 ,ad 24 I did 3 roundtrips with no problems. If anything, people were nicer to me - offering to help me get my bag in and out of the overhead. As of right now, I probably won't fly again until 32 weeks (if the doctor okays it) and I will take a note then because I'm so huge I look like I could pop at any moment. They just don't want you going into labor at 20,000 feet in the air, which I understand.

I'm actually sitting in the Denver airport on my way to PA this week and then Atlanta next week. No issues so far. I'm definitely not huge yet so no one seems to notice. I have one more trip about a month from now so that will be a bit more interesting. My dr told me that provided everything progresses normally, they will ground me at 35 weeks. Until then, drink lots of water and walk around once an hour.

  • I flew across the country with Sarah at 25 weeks, ran the Boston marathon there and then flew back, no issue. I will fly for work end of June and I don't anticipate any issues. I'll be 31 weeks.

  • I just flew last weekend at 24 weeks and I will be flying again with just me and my two girls in three weeks.  That trip will be interesting to say the least.

I ditto the drink lots of water and wear comfy shoes b/c your feet will swell.

  • I just came back from a trip and didn't have any issues. I'm only 22 weeks along, so maybe I don't look extremely big yet.  We're supposed to take a trip in the middle of July, but I'm wondering if that will happen or not.  It's not the flying that bothers me, but the thought of taking time off of work when I should probably save that for when the baby gets here...

I have flown numerous times so far during my pregnancy and will probably have 6-10 more trips.  I will probably ground myself at 30 weeks, mainly because I don't want to risk going in labor out-of-state.  My doctor said it's fine as long as my pregnancy doesn't have any complications.  And, as other posters mentioned, drink lots of water and walk around once an hour.  I stretch in the aisle and then walk to the bathroom.
