Evening Ladies,
I usually post on the TTC board, but I think its time to move over here if you ladies will have me. We are in 16 cycle TTC and our started our 4th monitored clomid cycle today. I finally ovulated last cycle when we up'ed the dosage to 100 mg. If we don't get a BFP this cycle Dr wants to do an MRI for me and SA on DH.
Here's some background and my question, I think the stress of baby making is getting to my husband. When we are just having sex for fun everything is fine, but during the week of baby making sex he has a little trouble. The Dr has advised EOD on CD 10-18, which is not working out for us. During the last cycle I tried to wait until my peak day to BD and give him a break from the rigorous schedule, but we still didn't time it quite right. We talked about doing at home insemination on a couple of those days to maybe alleviate some of performance stress he is feeling and he is willing to try it. Has anyone tried At home insemination? had positive results? negative results? Where did you buy the supplies needed? TIA
Re: New to Trouble TTC, At home insemination?
Personally, I'd be asking for an SA and a HSG before you go through anymore Clomid cycles. Most doctors are only comnfortable with a certain number of them in your lifetime, and you could be wasting them without the assurance that you don't have a blocked tube, or your husband's sperm isn't optimal. I'm actually surprised you haven't had these tests done, as they're pretty standard for ruling out issues. If possible, I'd stop with the Clomid now and get those tests ordered before going any further.
I don't know the general concensus on at-home insemination, but I personally wouldn't do anything without talking to a doctor first.

At home insemination is quite popular in LGBT couples TTC and, we've had a couple of friends use it along with frozen sperm to attempt to achieve pregnancy. One couple has conceived twice using the method and the other did not get pregnant yet. You use a sterile collection cup and needless syringe, you can get from the Dr office, but I was thinking the supplies could also be found online. I've seen them when searching for preseed and BBT online before.
I was just curious for a little more feedback before we tried it. In the end we will do whatever it takes and if ''turkey basting' is what it takes that's what we'll do. At my last dr visit I did discuss it with him and he said do whatever you are comfortable with, so I took that as permission to go ahead
Sorry - it posted before I typed anything!
I apologize, I didn't mean to offend. Like I said, I am probably naive, and you proved to me that I don't know much about it. I, myself, would not feel comfortable doing it. But I must mention that I would have a hard time giving myself intjections at home too, and plenty of women here do that. If you have talked to your doctor about it and he is comfortable with it, as are you, then I don't see why not. But IMO, if you have any suspicions of any other fertility issue(s), I would get those checked out first so you would have the best chance of being sucessful.
Again, I apologize, and wish you the best of luck!
I dont really see the difference either, I dont think the turkey baster (syringe) will get the sperm further than just normal intercourse, but I also haven't researched alot about it. Good luck with whatever you move forward with.
I agree with BP that you should definately have a hsg and s/a done on your DH, its wasting your time and mental well being of thinking it could happen when without further testing you really dont know!

Have you asked your doctor (assuming you are seeing an Ob not an RE) for medication that will help your husband preform under pressure? Seems like a little Viagra or Cialis would be much easier. The idea of doing an "at home insemination" is scary to me.
We can't get pregnant on our own, but Cialis has made our sex life much more enjoyable for both of us.

Are you talking at home insemination where you insert the catheter to your cervix, or through into your uterus?
If it's the cervical kind, I don't see why you couldn't give it a shot if YH is having difficulties. If you're talking going through the cervix into your uterus, I would say absolutely not. Unwashed semen inserted into your uterus can cause infection and severe cramping.
Another thing to think about is that his issues may be related to hormonal imbalances, such as Low Testosterone. I would suggest a semen analysis. If it comes back abnormal you RE can recommend blood work and a urologist.

What are you having an MRI for? What are they looking at?
We would not be using a catheter, that is too scary and dangerous for at home. We would only be collecting the sperm and putting it as close to the opening of the cervix as possible by using a needless syringe or the preseed applicator like LGLDVM suggested.
@Colorado, He wants to check for any tubal blockages that may not have appeared or developed after the first pelvic MRI we had done in January.
I'm not gonna lie, your doc is sounding kinda sketchy to me.
