So twins run in the family and I know that I could always have twins. I am pg and going to the doc to get the blood results to the HCG levels. I was wondering do you remember yours early in yoru pg? What were they? When your doc told you did he said it was a good chance you were carring more than one baby?
Re: Ladies who remember their HCG Levels
Here I go again....
No blood test can test for twin pregnancy - the only way to tell is with an u/s. High beta doesn't always mean twins and low beta doesn't always mean singletons.
That being said, my beta was 16po and it was 1001. My doctor said it was just an indicator that I was pregnant with at least one baby (we transferred 3 embies). In fact, even at our fist u/s at 5weeks, they only saw 1 sac.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Sorr if this question is asked a lot....
Look in the FAQ's at the top of the page - there's a thread about HCG levels.
For me - my 13dpiui number was 239, and at 16dpiui it was 660ish I think. I asked the nurse if she thought it was indicative of multiples and she said she thought it was just a strong singleton....but I had a feeling it was twins. I was right!
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls!
Baby Girl #3!
google betabase and you'll find a lot of numbers and statistics.
FWIW, mine were 311 at 14DPT, and 689 (or something like that) at 16DPT.
At 14dpo mine was only 105 so you definitely can't base twins off of hcg numbers!
Congrats on your pg!
My betas are in my siggy.
Gongrats on your pregnancy!
Like pp's have said, HCG #'s won't indicate multiple pregnancies, the only way to know is to have an ultrasound done. My #'s are in my siggy.
Did you have hcg levels taken with your last pregnancy? This is probably a better guess (though I wouldn't take it to the bank) of how many you are carrying than anything that we will tell you, as they vary more by person than anything. My levels with twins were nearly twice when I was carrying a singleton. My RE never said anything about twins (though we knew it was possible since we transferred 2), until we saw them on the u/s...
singleton: 14dpo: 104, 17dpo: 490, 24dpo: 3764
twins: 14dpo: 197, 17dpo: 480, 24dpo: 7078
5 REs + 3 surgical hysteroscopies for septum/lap + 3 failed IUIs
IVF w/ICSI/AH & acu = BFP!, unexplained spontaneous m/c @ 8w2d (our little girl),
FET w/acu = BFP!, B/G twins!, lost MP @19w, dx w/funneling cervix @20w,
twins nearly lost to IC @21w, saved by rescue cerclage, 17P & 16w of bedrest
Our twins born @36w4d via CS when A came foot first
Thankful for every day

The nurses said there was a good possibility I was carrying twins, but that they'd seen much higher beta's with singletons and much lower with twins/trips. I wouldn't put much stock in hcg for determining twins. The u/s is the only way to know for sure. GL!
TTC since 5/10
Dx: PCOS 12/10
IUI #1 (2/11/11): Metformin + Clomid + Ovidrel = BFN
IUI #2 (3/13/11): Metformin + Gonal-F + Ovidrel = BFP
Beta #1 (15dpo) 460, Beta #2 (17dpo) 829, Beta #3 (19dpo) 1550 u/s #1 (4/12/11): Twins!
Twins run in my family too but I was still surprised to find out I was/amm expecting two!
14dpo: 455
17 dpo: 2100
Also, on my first appt at 14 dpo my progesterone was "very high"...the nurse wouldn't tell me the exact number, only that it was over 40. I just knew once she told me that that I was going to have twins!
