Swim diapers?

What do you use for a diaper when your LO's go in the pool?  If the sun decides to make an appearance today, we'll go out for our first romp in the kiddy pool.  Just realized I only have regular diapers on hand though.  What do you recommend?

ETA: If it matters my girls are on the small side.  They're both in size 3 pampers during the day, and size 4 at night.

Re: Swim diapers?

  • Last summer (10-12 months) I used Huggies Little Swimmers, the pampers ones were like way too big for my kids or didn't fit right or something.

This summer I have some pampers swimming ones left over & some huggies & I'm just using them up, so far so good w/ the pampers. I'll prob just buy whichever are cheaper when I have to go replenish. GL!

And just so you know, swimmy diapers are only meant to keep poop in, they don't absorb so don't put them on until right before the pool or right before you get in the car to go to the pool if it is a short drive... last summer we put one on DS not realizing this & when we arrived at the pool his swimsuit & car seat were wet...ewww

  • Honestly if it's just me, DH and the girls and we are just putting them in their little plastic pool...its bare butt! We just dump the water when they are done anyway! But when we take them to the IL's (they have a big pool) we put them in pampers splashers. I'm sure there are some small enough for your girls because we used them last year for my girls (around 6 months old). Have fun!

  • Last year I used reusable swim diapers I bought from One Step Ahead when we were at home in our own pool. Disposable swim diapers can get really expensive if you are using them daily or a couple of times a week. I saved the disposable swim diapers for when we went to the beach or to someone elses house to swim.

Now since they are just potty trained, I don't wear anything on them at home and they get out and go in the house if they have to potty. If we are at the beach or going to a public pool/spray park, I do put a disposable on them in case they forget to tell me they need to go and have an accident. Again like PP said it doesn't really do much for pee only poop. They have never pooped in a swim diaper, but you never know and since they are so knew to going on the potty, I could see an accident happening.

Using the reusable last year and nothing this year at our own house, I was able to buy only 1 pack of swim diapers per girl for the entire summer.

Thanks!  It looks like Target has the Speedo reusable swim diapers on sale this week.  I think I'll pick a couple of these up too!
