Getting ready for the bath and taking the bath = so cute and so much fun.
But after the bath, it is SUCH A FIASCO trying to get her to sit still to dry her off, clean out her ears, lotion her up, apply diaper cream, get the diaper on, and get her pjs on. By the end of our 20 minute post-bath wrestling match, my back hurts, I'm wet, I've been kicked several times, and she is crawling away from me at light speed.
I want to love bath time! Please tell me it gets better at some point...
Re: confession: I dread bath time
Our post-bathtime routine can be like this if I bathe him too late. Maybe try moving it up a little bit and see if it's easier on her (and you)
ETA: I still use a change table with G and he's 17 months. It would be WAAY to hard otherwise. Also, I give him toys to distract him. Lately he's into helping, so he gets and empty tube of lotion that he pretends to rub all over.
I give Kate my phone to play with. That is probably a parenting fail but it keeps her still long enough to get a diaper, lotion, diaper cream, and jammies on.
I also make sure there aren't any distractions (dogs, toys in her line of vision) in the nursery in hopes of keeping her contained.
LOL. Yeah the 2.5 year old RUNS away naked! With both of them the only thing that matters is getting the diaper on. If the lotion/ears/pjs have to be delayed or skipped that is ok. I also still use a changing table with Amelia, that helps some.
sigh. i am jealous, sweetie--DS doesn't like the bath part, either! he doesn't scream like he did when he was a newborn, but he is wary at best.
hope things get easier for you and DD!
Post-bath time is the worst!! I agree. You are definitely not alone!
That said, recently, Will has shown signs of being able to tolerate the towel off/lotion/diaper/snot sucking (sometimes)/pjs routine a little better. Some days are better than others, but he seems to do well if we do things like let him hold the lotion container when we're applying it or read a book or do some other distracting activity. I'm sure our ability to distract will end at some point, but that works for now!
Honestly, I'm glad to see that it's not that easy for others, too!
Andrew loves the bath, but has just recently begun the whole wiggle-worm routine during the dryoff phase. I'm dreading once he can crawl away - it's bad enough with him twisting and turning as I try to put on his diaper!
Bath time, getting dressed/Jammie time, diaper changes are the WORST in my house. I dread them all.
I have been having DH do bath time lately since he has been home in the evenings but that all changes starting tomorrow and it's all back to me. And I am dreading it. Yesterday at the supermarket he almost feel off the dipaer chaging table cause he was moving and squirming around so much...and I HATE having to almost pin him down to ge the diaper changed. It's really terrible. I feel you! We also try all the distracting tricks but nothing really seems to work for too long..
We went through this too and it was horrible. She is fine now with the lotion/getting dressed but now it's a nightmare getting her to fall asleep. I think it lasted a month of two with DD, hopefully this falling alseep thing will be over soon too.
ETA: She isn't perfect during this time, she still wiggles and wants to sit up and crawl off the table, but she's happy and definitely managable vs screaming, fighting, and kicking like she was. I have a toy bag that hangs on the wall right above the changing table, and she picks one each night to hold/play with while I get her ready for bed.
How are you feeling btw?
