DD won't fall asleep without me in the room

What do I do!?  I don't pick her up or talk to her while I'm in there (I don't want to engage her), but if she can't see me she starts crying-she does this during the day too.  If I'm not in her sight, she freaks.  When I'm standing next to the crib, she will lay there and fall asleep eventually-but only if she can see me.  She has always done this during the day, but just recently started at night, within the past week.  Help!

  • How long is she awake between naps?

    You have no shame.

She asked for advice. I'm sharing what works for me (and others).

Do you even post on this site except to solicit your sleep advice and talk about how you make your children cry themselves to sleep?

    Sure do.

That shizz must suck. My answer to everything involving LOs crying is they must be spanked. ASAP!

Damn.  I was afraid that was the answer! Wink

  • I try not to let her take a nap too close to bedtime so she's not wide eyed.  But as long as I'm next to her crib she is happy and not crying.  She will look at her mobile, then look at me to make sure I'm still there.  I think it has more to do with me being there than her not wanting to sleep?  Because she will be tired and fighting it.

  • I am not CIO, and DS rarely goes to sleep without some direct intervention (rocking in car seat or swing are our least hands on ones...) but...

I have taken to picking the soothing methods that work with us there and extending them so that he will learn to do it himself. So... he likes us to rub his cheek... now if he is holding his blanket he will rub it against his cheek (instead of hitting himself in the face.)

He doesn't go down drowsy well, but he will go back to sleep when he stirs between wakings. I just try to make sure he is in a comfortable environment.

I am sorry, but I don't understand why a (less than 4 month old) baby should have to go to sleep by themselves. As one person I saw it posted... there could be lions! (ie it is biological for them to seek security...) - swap in another comfort source...

  • I should try having DH put her down.  She usually isn't very awake when I put her in her crib (I will rock her for a while if she hasn't fallen asleep during her bottle) but will stir when I put her down.  I swear she knows when I leave because she will be about asleep, and I step out, she screams.  I come back in, she stops.  I try to put my hand on her tummy and kind of rock her gently, which she seems to like.

I agree with this. Right now, my baby won't go to sleep without me and I'm o.k with that. I rock her until she is fully asleep and put her down. She STTN and is able to sooth herself back to sleep when she wakes up in the night.  Will I pay for this later? Maybe, but right now my instincts are telling me to cuddle my girl.

Watch it, alopdx.  You know the "sleep chick" has a pretty big fan out there that will make an AW, and create a post and tell you what a biitch you are if you're not careful.  :-D  You sure you're ready for that?

Hey, maybe she gets a commission on the ad revenue when she gets people to go to the "siggy" pages.
