Co-sleeping question

For those mamas who are co-sleeping in the bed, I have a question.  How do you handle the blankets if your LO is tucked in right next to you?  I've got the positioning down (on the couch) but I'm afraid our fluffy comforter is going to flip over on her and smother her!  DH is really paranoid about this so I want to figure it out so I can go back to my bed.  I'm sick of the couch!!!

Re: Co-sleeping question

  • I just sleep with our heads right next to each other.  He gets one extra little receiving blanket under the sheet and comforter, and that's how we sleep.  No pillow, but it works.  And that way the comforter never goes above his head.

  • If I have the baby in bed, I swap my bigger blanket for a light, thin one (and usually put on some warm pj pants to keep me warmer). I don't cosleep in our big bed - the memory foam isn't safe, the pillows and blankets aren't safe, it's not against the wall... just not going to work.
  • I sleep with the blankets low. But you could also try sleeping her up higher, her tummy where your head is and you and DH scooted down closer to the foot. I also sleep with us chest to chest. We didn't plan on co sleeping, but she only sleeps if she is either in bed with us or in her swing.

  • I forgo blankets or just keep them on my legs.

  • I only co-sleep for some naps, but if I do I put his head on my pillow, and put his blanket on him, and my blanket on me.

  • My DD has been sleeping with me since we've been home because she just refuses to sleep by herself. We have a king size bed and with the temp here in AL we have only been using sheets. She usually sleeps about armpit hight or tummy to tummy in the bed next to me. We have the AC turned down at night, so maybe you can do that so you dont have to use a blanket? I slept on the couch with DD#1 for the first 3 months so I know how you feel. GL!

  • please excuse poor typing, NAK at the moment...

I have the comforter to my waist, then I have a lighter narrow quilt that I cover the upper half of me with.  it's about 45" wide (the width of a bolt of flannel).  DD sleeps about armpit level in her own little light blanket.

  • I have little one sleep with her head right next to my breast basically she just falls asleep eating. I use a sheet and a light down comforter. The nice thing about the down comforter is that it stays where I put it, meaning I can fold it back so it doesn't cover LO and it stays that way all night. I have the sheet cover her legs because she hates having anything cover her arms.

  • I attempted a nap with DD in the bed.  It was SO nice to sleep in bed, but I don't know if it will work for nighttime.  It took a lot of effort to get in and out of bed and to get and stay comfortable.  I think we'll stick to the couch at night for the time being.

This. If I pull a blanket up at all, I make sure his head is above my head and it's just the sheet.

  • I put the baby between DH and I in his own baby "sleeping bag", and then we each have our own comforter that is twin size.  It works for now.
