A ? for those who make pancakes for LO

I will preface by saying I think this may be a ridiculously dumb question but I'll ask anyways.

I know that babehs aren't suppossed to have milk and eggs until after a year, but on the box of pancake mix it calls for milk and eggs. Is it okay to add that or is there some substitute we should be using? Thanks!

  • Unless you have a history of allergies in your family or your LO has already shown a tendency to have reactions to foods, eggs and milk are fine prior to a year. The key with milk is that you don't want it to replace breastmilk or formula prior to a year, so if it's just a small amount as an ingredient, that is totally fine. My DD loves pancakes, scrambled eggs, and cheddar/spinach omelets.

  • Small amounts tend to work since neither of our families has any history of any food allergies, including nuts or milk. I just gave C half a blueberry pancake on Saturday morning and he loved it, and is still happy and healthy.

  • I don't think it would be a problem, as long as there's no history of allergies.

We got the ok for eggs at DD's 6 month appointment, so she's been eating them since then.

It's fine to make pancakes with milk and eggs. If the stuff is cooked in something it kinda loses it's "badness". Like honey nut cheerios are ok, but honey is not. KWIM?

  • We have the pancake mix that only requires water. That or you can make it from rice cereal:

1/2 cup baby cereal oatmeal (or barley)
    1/2 cup whole wheat flour
    1/2 cup baby formula
    1/2 cup of applesauce

  • I made pancakes for my DS last week. I substituted formula for milk and 1/4 cup applesauce for each egg. They turned out great!
