Both of our families have always done family names as middle names, so we followed suit. We used my middle name, which I dropped when we got married so I could keep my maiden name as my middle name: Marie. It also happened to be my late MIL's middle name, so it has meaning on both sides of the family.
We picked Alexandria as a middle name because my husband's middle name is Alexander. Taylor Alexandria...I think it has a nice ring to it, but maybe that's because I have said it and heard it a million times over the last 20 weeks.

For our girl name, it is just a name we like. I wanted to use my MN, but it just didn't flow, so we quickly abandoned the idea. We haven't fully decided on a boy name yet, but it will likely involve DH's first or MN, just whatever flows better. Most of our other family names are awful and we didn't want to use them.

The middle name was really hard for us but we finally decided on my middle name, which I gave up when I got married (I took my maiden name as my middle). I'm glad it will have some meaning! Otherwise we wanted to use a family name but we had a hard time finding one for a girl that we both liked.
We picked Marie because it was DH's late mom's name. I think it flows well but of course, Marie is considered a "filler" name and really goes with anything. But it has meaning to us.
We chose William for a middle name..both my DH and FIL have it as their middle names, so I guess its a family name. TBH I wasn't very picky about it, it sounds good with our last name and we couldn't think of anything else we wanted so we just went with it.
We picked a family name (DH's late grandfather) that we liked, but not enough to make it a first name. We picked it in tribute to DH's late mother, as we were going to use her initial as the first initial of LO's name, but couldn't come up with a name of that initial that we liked...
Finally updating my signature and avatar, August 29, 2011 (better late than never!)

I fell in love with the first name so I gave DH more say on the middle name...he chose to use he's dad's middle name. It flows well and is really sweet, also LO will be the first grandchild so it's kinda neat.
We went with family names for middle names because we wanted our kids to have their own identities for their first names. Creedyn Lee is our DS's first/middle name, and Lee runs on both my husbands and my sides of the family... and this LO's middle name will be Willow, after my grandmother, because we are very close. (I also happen to love her name.) I did break tradition with the girls in my family... it has alternated between Rose and Marie as the middle name for a long time now... (My middle name is Rose)... but no one has made a big deal about it. (And I don't really care, anyways.)
We also wanted to make sure that the WHOLE name flowed well from beginning to end... We're pretty happy with our choices.
We decided on Christine for her middlel name which was my aunt's name. She passed away 1wk before our wedding which was upsetting to not have her there. We wanted to have her be a part of our little girl's life. We think Ava Christine flows nice, hope our little peanut likes it when she gets older.
We picked the middle name Mae after my grandma. We are still deciding on the first name but I think Mae flows well with all of our choices. My grandma was an amazing women and I am looking forward to sharing her story with my Lo someday.
From the time I got pregnant, it was always on my heart to pray nonstop for her to be able to hear and recognize God's voice so that faith would come easy for her. I've prayed that constantly over here the entire time. So when it came time to pick a middle name, it just seemed right!
Since we're doing unique/non-family names for LO's first name...we pegged the middle name as a family name. Alexander is a very big family name on DH's side (it's also his best friend's name).

Ray was my great grandfathers name and my grandfathers/dad/nephew's middle name so we just switched to the female spelling for our daughter :] I think it sounds nice!

Ours is significant. We took the male version of my husband's deceased sister. It meant a lot to him to have our 1st born have some kinda of remembrance of her.
We ended up agreeing on a middle name that we both just like, but it doesn't have any family connection. We chose Corinne and it flows with both the first and last names.
DH: 34/Me: 35 Married: Feb 2008 DD: June 2011 TTC# 2: April 2014 BFP!! 8/29/16 --> EDD: 5/11/17....it's a GIRL!!!
For DD #1 We gave her the middle name Cecilia. This is in honour of Saint Cecilia, the Patron Saint of Musicians. DH is a musician and music teacher and alot of our family are musicians. Emily is her first name which is DH's grandmothers middle name.
For DD#2 we have chosen Christine to be the middle name. This is my grandmothers middle name. And then Isabelle will be her first name. There is a Saint Isabelle but i cannot remember what she's the Saint of to be honest.
We like the idea of having a saints name in our children's name and if we can include a family name then that's cool too! Most members in our family do have a religious name in one way or another.

middle names ,to me , should always be family names.
But this is just how it has always been done in our families.
Our son's middle name is Daniel. I knew if he was a boy that he would have my Dad's name as a middle name. So , we picked a first name that sounded good with that.

She will have my middle name, both as tradition and for meaning (Christine = Follower of Christ)
DD #1's middle name is Raye. She was named in honor of our BIL who died (at the age of 26) of a brain tumor.
DD #2's middle name will be Lynn, in honor of my dad and DH's mom.
