side stitch when walking

I occasionally got these side cramps/stitches (always on my right side) when walking... not braxton hicks contractions, but always localized to one spot, and it feels exactly like when I used to run and I'd get a "stitch" in my side. Deep breathing always helped it go away pre-baby... but today, I was walking to work, and it would NOT stop. It subsides if I sit down, but the minute I get back up, it aches again. I slow down to a really slow walk, and deep breathing  helps, but it doesn't make it go away.

Any remedies you want to share with me? :)

Re: side stitch when walking

  • i get the same pain. i mentioned it to the doctor yesterday. she said it was my ligements trying to hold up my "big" baby. i explained it as the exact same way. the only thing she suggested i do is lay on the opposide side of where the stitch is and try to get the baby to move over off of the spot that is hurting. not easy to do at work  right!?!  you dont look very talkl by your pictures, and i am not either, so i have no doubt we arent going through the same thing. i feel your pain. it is totally uncomfortable!

  • Yeah, I'm a shorty (5'1) and my doctor told me that I will carry "big" due to my shorter torso. *sigh* I was going to mention it at my next appt... I wonder if one of those maternity support belts would help?
  • I am almost five foot. my baby actually is big. He is measuring 4 weeks a head of schedule, so with the short torso and a big baby, i am pretty sure we are just screwed! My girlfriend got one of those belts and said it was more uncomfortable than it helped.

when mine started hurting earlier today i tried holding my stomach up like the belt would, and it didnt do much other than making me look like an idiot! Stick out tongue

we are really close in due dates too, although the doc said with my size and the size of my fat baby, and i am diabetic, we will not go past 38 weeks.

do people keep telling you that you are going to go on bedrest because of your height and size? i am going to scream if one more person says that to me!!

  • I have had the same thing.  Sitting down is the only remedy I have found.  Do you best to slow down and sit down if possible

  • I've been experiencing too. No help with a remedy though.
  • I get the "whoa, any day now, eh?" comments a LOT... but nothing about bedrest (thank goodness) :) I guess I'll just take it easy, but it sucks when I have to walk to and from the Metro (train) station to work and home each day! Ugh!
  • the girl who said it was ligament pain is correct.. i got these in my second tri and i did everything i could to get rid of them.. ?STRETCHING that side while having them actually made them go away and i have had NO PAIN since then.. i know it feels like a real side stitch but it really isn't. i only got them while walking too.. stretch stretch stretch and you will see an improvement!?
