I'm thinking we want a crib that eventually goes into toddler bed and then into headboard and footboard options. But, I'm wondering if you seasoned mommas have opinions on conversion cribs vs. traditional cribs? And if you have a conversion crib, are you using it for its full purpose?
Thanks!

Re: Questions about cribs
Most of my friends have gone the full convertible route going into a full sized bed...but they decided not to use it for the full sized bed and bought new stuff. Sometimes because another baby needed the crib or they just didn't want a bed as big. Of course they can always use it later down the line.
I decided I didn't want the full bed option. Just a crib and toddler bed. I plan to use the crib for all future kids and once we are done, no longer have the crib. But it does convert to a twin bed. I also really like the traditional stying with the short ends being high and the long sides lower. We went with the Baby's Dream Ocean V2. Pottery Barn also has a similar one, so I guess that style is coming back.
I say pick a crib you love and if it has all the extra features great!

Both of ours convert to full beds. Right now, we have 1 turned into the full and 1 still a crib. We bought more expensive furniture knowing that we would not need to buy anything else later on.
We just got a crib that was a crib. There was an option to convert to a toddler bed, but I didn't buy it. DD made the jump straight from the crib to a twin bed.
This is my crib and I adore it: https://www.oeufnyc.com/sparrowcrib.aspx
We have it in grey and baby #2 will also use it.
Future furniture needs will probably involve a set of bunk beds and a double bed for DD. (So we can cram the kids in together when we have company.)

we have two of the exact same crib in different colors, ours convert to a toddler bed (the front just comes off) and then they would convert to a full. since we've had a litter, we haven't been able to convert anything to the full yet but I also don't think we will end up doing that after all, mostly because the conversion kit is expensive and we will most likely be getting bunk beds by the time we have another transition. For Finn we converted to toddler bed and then when Kellen came along we put Finn right into a full size bed and gave the crib to the baby and right now Riley is in the other as a toddler bed. But I'd say ditto Kate, go with a crib you like and the rest will follow. oh and we did get stationary cribs only because the random recalls of drop side cribs was just something I did not ever want to deal with (or pinching my own damn fingers for that matter).
We have the same crib for pretty much the same reasons.
