Help a newbie-- I hate my pockets

Hi Everyone,

I have a 6 week old who we have been cloth diapering for over a month now. I have found myself HATING my pocket diapers because they constantly leak. I have really only been using my fitteds/pre-folds and covers becaues I dont want to deal with the leaks of the pockets, but I find that to be waste of money and wondering if you had any ideas about how to help we want to use them more. I keep hoping that it was just that her thighs were too small, but she is really packing on the lbs and i feel like the diapers are tight enough around the legs now.

I have three Fuzzibuns in X-small and three Happy Heinies in the small size, I have tired a few hemp inserts and it doesnt seem to make a difference. They have been leaking from the start and I am really getting frustrated. I have a bunch of one size pockets to use when she gets bigger, but I am dreading that now, because I cant seem to figure out whats wrong with them and why they keep leaking.

We only have the OS BG pockets and haven't had any problems with leaks.

I assume from your post they are leaking from the legs? My guess is your LO just isn't big enough yet, even for the XS. FWIW, HH never worked for DS, he had really small thighs for the longest time. I never had FB XS, but had smalls, and they didn't fit him for several months. Don't give up yet, just give her some time to fill out in the legs.

How big is your LO? The pockets might very well be too big for her at 6 weeks. prefolds or newborn sized fitteds with covers might be a better option until LO gets a little bit bigger.

Yes- they do leak from the legs...

She is almost 10lbs, so maybe she just needs more time to fill out... i hope they are not a total waste. I have some BumGenius one sizes, but I have been nervous to try them because these smaller ones still leak.

I have been very happy with my fitteds/prefolds with a cover so I will just keep using those, and trying to get these pockets to work at some point.

I am in the same boat however DS is 4 months old now so i have just about given up. Once a week I try one of our 3 fuzzibunz or 10 kushies and we end up with a mess. He is almost 13 lbs now so I am pretty sure it is just the shape of his legs so we are sticking with prefolds and thirsties covers which work great for his long lean body (totally dad's genes btw) and never leak. He needs those gussets around the legs which I am guessing your baby does too. I was warned by cd friends that certain types of diapers don't work for different baby shapes which is why I never stocked up on one kind at first. I would sell my fb and kushies but our next baby may have "thunder thighs" like mommy so I'm hanging on for now!

I was able to use the BG OS on DD2 at 9lbs. Give it a shot.

I was just about to post the same thing today. DS also fits great in his prefolds and fitteds. But the FB x-smalls leak at the legs every time. He has skinny legs though so I can't get a great fit with them. Hopefully for both of us they fit our LO's when they get a little bigger. I also have the FB OS diapers for when he gets bigger.

DS leaked also. Now he's 13 lbs but he doesn't have chunky thighs. Covers with pre-folds are the best & at night I won't use anything else.

I am really disappointed with our pockets (FB Small, OS & BG OS). I wish we didn't stupidly buy so many while I was pregnant

If they don't work out, maybe you can sell them to get most of your money back and try a different brand? Could just be the brand doesn't fit the shape of your baby?

Also, it could be your detergent. Are you using a cloth diaper safe detergent? If not- you could simply have a build up problem.
