tell me about razor scooters...

My kids are overdue for bikes, etc.  We live on a huge hill with no sidewalks and a gravel driveway, so we've put it off.  We plan to take them to the bus loop at school, which is nearby, this summer.

I was thinking a razor scooter would be fun and help them learn balance before attempting to balance a bicycle.

Or are they not worth it and just skip to a bike with training wheels?

I have no experience with the razor scooters except some of DDs friends have them.

Re: tell me about razor scooters...

  • I forget how old your kids are, but my 3 & 4 year olds LOVE their scooters. I actually have the three wheeled scooters for them, but a couple of kids in the neighborhood have the Razor scooters, and the kids all trade off all the time, so I've seen my kids do great with the 2 wheeled ones as well. I think that the balance thing probably won't make much difference, I think that skills needed to ride the scooter and bike are mutually exclusive.

  • They're 6 and 4   (and 1, but she can wait!)

I'd be bringing the kids and their scooters to someplace to do the scooter thing. So it's not like one more fun thing to do w/ friends in the neighborhood for us.  In that situation, would you still do the scooters?

  • My kids love their scooters. They my kids actually learned how to balance on their scooter before riding their bikes.
