Infertility

Prometrium, IUI & endometriosis q's

I have a short luteal phase, usually ovulating around CD16 and then AF starts 7-8 days later.  With my new RE he prescribed 100 mg suppositories 2x a day (200 mg a day) for use after the IUI on the 26th.

Does anyone know if they can cause cramping and/or twinging pains?  I had a supposedly great response to the Clomid/follistim this past cycle so I know I might have those during the actual ovulation.  But now it's a few days past then and I am still getting activity almost all the time... I am trying not to read too much into all of it, but MAN that's hard to do!   Every sensation has me wondering.  I pretty much starting the cramping feeling immediately after the IUI.

Also I did the ovulation trigger shot ~ I didn't realize that meant I might get a false positive preg test?   Nurse is having me do a HPT on the 9th... is there any chance of one done before then being inaccurate (false positive)?  That would be a good reason for me to resist the ridiculous urge to POAS!

Finally - doctor thought I might have an endo cyst (chocolate cyst) on my left tube.  Anyone here have experience with that??  The doctor said with my numbers, response, etc. as well as hubby that he is willing to do 1, maybe 2 IUIs - before referring me out to get to laproscopic surgery to look at that cyst.

Any thoughts on that?  Or any of this - soooo welcome...

  • I had one of those cysts that actually ruptured between laps.  It was the most severe pain of my life.  I was in the hospital for 6 days.

Get it taken care of as soon as you can if it is big enough that he can see it on an ultrasound.  Those can be really dangerous for your ovarian tissue because they can rupture and form adhesions to your abdominal wall and jeopardize your ovaries.

The progesterone supplements can cause a lot of twinges, cramps, pains, bloating, spotting, etc.  With your trigger shot, you WILL get a false positive test if you test too early.  A lot of ladies here (myself included) test the shot out - you start testing early until you get a negative and then you know if you get a positive later, it's real.  Other options are to wait until at least ten days post trigger to test or wait until your beta (it should be out by both of those).  Sorry, I'm no help on the cyst, but pp offered some good advice.

Good Luck!!  I hope this is the one!

  • In my experience I had cramping twinges and sharp pains in all cycles when I used Endometrin including when I was pregnant and when I got BFFN's. So try not to read into the feelings you are having they can be very misleading.

This exactly!  I am always miserable on progesterone.  Some cycles are better than others, but the strength of the symptoms has not had any impact on the results for me.  I hope this is it for you, though.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for the replies!

That is seriously scary about the painful ruptured cyst and what damage it can do.  I am surprised my doctor would be comfortable doing 2 IUI's with the possibility that cyst is in there??  He's extremely well known and respected, I have to trust him at this point I think, but ... that's scary.  :(

I got sooo sick last night.  Probably the worst abdominal cramping I've ever had - it was awful!  But I am taking the prometrium as a suppository and it seemed from what I had read that it is much more likely to have a gastrointestinal effect if taken orally.  I am trying to chalk it up to just a coincidence and that the pain and everything else was from a bad burrito... ugh... Confused

I am supposed to be flying to visit my cousin on Friday for a long weekend.  I debated testing before i go - but that would be too soon I think - 7 DPO/IUI.  The nurse told me to test on the 9th which would be 14 days...  this feels like foreverrrr.  Especially because in the past with my short luteal phase, I didn't actually have a 2WW!  So it's funny - of course it is better to have a lengthened luteal phase, but it prolongs the waaaaaait.  Sorry for the whining!!!

  • I ended up calling my doctor (yes, early evening on Memorial Day ...) because I got a fever (so far up to 100.9, I normally run low) and didn't feel much better and even got worse again throughout the day.  He thinks it is overstimulation... lots of follicles... said I've got fluid in there and potentially in the peritoneal cavity which can cause that fever too.  Told me to take tylenol and drink gatorade.

I feel awful!  Imagine my joy when I read this can go on for weeks or if I am pregnant it can worsen through the 1st trimester.

Well, at least it's not the prometrium... Tongue Tied
