learning the meaning of "be careful what you wish for"

For 34 months I read about symptoms of pregnancy and hearing that heartburn was one, I seriously wished for it every 2ww.  DH always told me I was crazy and that heartburn sucked (I had never had heartburn).  Well, about 1.5 hours ago I woke up to the worst heartburn (at least I hope it's as bad as it gets...)

Don't get me wrong--I'm thrilled to have a concrete symptom....but yowza!  This really hurts.  I know most people are given the ok to take antacids, but I was hoping I could avoid taking anything...not sure how much long I'll last feeling that way if this becomes a routine occurrence.

  • I said the same thing and your right heartburn sucks, BUT I will suffer through it for my baby. I would deal with this and a lot more for the chance to have a healthy baby.

  • I totally understand about avoiding taking anything.  However, my OB told me Tums was great during preg.  He said any extra calcium you can get is really helpful.  He mentioned that the extra calcium I took (in addition to prenatals) are harder for your body to absorb so Tums helped with that.  I found a big glass of milk and tums to be a great solution.  My heartburn started around 30 weeks and sucked.  I remember getting up in the middle of the night with a big belly and dribbling milk down the front with my Tums.  Hope you feel better soon.

  • I really recomind the Tums but if you want to try something natural first try a big glass of milk. Also cut down on citrus fruit and fruit juice which can make it worse.

  • Avacado and mango are also meant to be good natural remedies.
  • We had our first childbirth class last night, and the nurse gave a great natural tip for keeping heartburn away.  She suggested avoiding eating a large meal, especially at night.  Instead, eat small meals and drink a lot of water throughout the day.  HTH!
