So to make a long story short, I was telling my MALE co-worker yesterday that my husband and I were going out to get a rocker this weekend. He proceeded to tell me that they are really a waste, bc technically its bad to rock your babies to sleep? Is this true? If you don't need one, then why is does everyone have one? Or is he just being an idiot and telling me HIS opinion?
Either way we are getting a rocker.
Re: Rocking Chair question - 2nd time moms come in...
His opinion. I am sure others will tell you the same.
I have to say that I hate my rocking chair. So uncomfortable. I wated a glider and think I will get one for the new baby. Much easier to feed in a glider!

Definitely just his opinion.
Are you getting a traditional rocker or a glider? IMO, gliders are much more comfortable than a traditional rocker.
I have a glider (an inexpensive one by Storkcraft) and I love it. When I was BFing, we kept it in the living room so I could watch TV and nurse. Now, it's in DS's room, and I feed him his last bottle of the night in it before bed, to sort of help him wind down. It's calming for both of us at the end of a long day.
ETA: After my unexpected c-section, this was also the only comfortable place to sit. Our couches are too soft, and I didn't feel supported enough by them after the surgery.
This!
Can someone explain the difference between a rocker and a glider? I always thought a glider is one of those with wood and cushions in the seat part. I thought a rocker (or what I am referring to) looks like a lazy-boy but one of those soft cushion chairs that has fabric over the whole chair.
I do know they have rockers out there that are all completely wood - those are WAY too uncomfortable!!
THIS too. We have a glider and it was invaluable the first year!
He is an idiot! We rocked our babies to sleep and they are both excellent sleepers now and both have been in "big girl" beds since 16 months
And even if you choose not to rock them to sleep, you still need to sit somewhere while you feed/nurse, or read books or just cuddle. Even if you're into CIO, you will likely rock your baby when s/he is sick.
But don't get a rocker... get a glider!!!!
We spent $900 on ours and absolutely love it... it's worth every penny and I still use it everyday while my youngest takes her cup of milk before bedtime.
Ours is a Dutailier Intermezzo and I love that it looks like a regular chair and not a nursery glider

Gliders can be wooden also... it's all about how it moves.
I suggest going with an upholstered one
. Much more comfy
