Talk to me about flat spots on head

I am really worried about DS2's head.  He has a definite flat spot right in the middle back of his head, it's small and not really noticeable unless you look carefully at the right angle or feel it, but it IS there.  There also seems to be a flat-ish spot a little to the right as well, because that's how he lies - either head straight or to the right.  I cannot for the life of me get him to change his head position.  He actively resists and if I can move it when he's asleep he just moves it right back a minute later.

We are going to the pedi next week for his 3 month appt and I will of course bring it up, but I'm driving myself insane constantly feeling his head and I'm wondering if I should go in sooner.  His head LOOKS fine and everyone says I'm overreacting, but there are definite flat spots and it freaks me out.

Has anyone else dealt with this?  If you talked to your pedi what did they say?

Re: Talk to me about flat spots on head

  • I have personal experience with a flat spot- I've STILL got one lol. My only consolation is that I have really big hair, that's always covered it up- I think this is what prevented my parents from ever noticing it! I've heard there are helmets that can correct extreme head shape issues; check with your pediatrician, for sure!

  • When you feed him, make him turn his head other ways. And do tummy time so he can develop the muscles on both sides of his neck. Keep trying to get him to turn it other ways when you can.
