What do you do in lieu of it? We just don't watch tv enough to justify how much we are paying Cox. But we each have our shows that we don't want to miss. If you canceled cable, how do you still keep up with stuff that plays on cable channels like Bravo and Discovery?
Re: Has anyone canceled cable?
Do their websites put the full episodes on after they air?
If nothing else, you could get netflix, and watch them on DVD after the season is over.
We cancelled Cox because we hate them. Now we have directv and are pretty satisfied.

This looks promising.
I don't mind watching most stuff after the season has ended but that won't fly with Top Chef. MH takes this show very seriously.
We haven't had cable in over 10 years. I think we get nbc and cbs if we plug the tv into the cable on the wall though, so we can get emergency news.
The reason we gave up cable/television is because it's all we did - we wanted our lives back and we didn't want M exposed to the ever increasing amount of advertisement and reality television. So the issue of "how to watch the shows we liked" wasn't an issue at the time.
Don't get me wrong - tv is not utterly outlawed for us or anything. If it's on when we visit our family we'll watch, and we watch some shows on Netflix or online if we want to keep up with the current season. (I watch Bones and CSI this way.)
The effect is pretty remarkable though - the lack of advertising leaves us laughing at today's standard ads - when we do see the ads, we always ask each other "These work on people? This gets someone to go out and buy/do/want something?" M is especially astonished, and has a remarkable lack of branded neediness for a teenager.
And I love it.
This. Plus it was sort of amazing how much TV we just stopped watching, and were okay with. We have cable now, but not sure when we go back to NY.
If Hulu plus was available in Canada I would cancel my cable in a heart beat. For now I just have to settle for Netflix streaming.

This is honestly what I foresee happening. I'm 99% sure we'll get hulu plus and maybe something else but I'm not sure what. Bravo & History/Discovery are the big ones that we'll miss. Well, and ESPN during football season but we know enough people that we can mooch their cable when that time comes.

We get the local cable, so ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox & the CW.
We don't watch shows on Bravo or Discovery. If we're at my parents or in-laws, we usually watch cable then.
We watch a lot of movies instead. I DVR the few shows I do watch from the channels above.

I can't say much more about finding alternative ways to get your shows that hasn't already been said but I wanted to point out something we figured out. Our TV has a digital tuner built in but we were getting terrible reception. Hubby tried expensive inside and outside antennas but putting a digital converter on the TV was the only thing that worked. We get about 25 channels with it, versus the 10 we were getting with fancy antennas that went back to the store.
