What size of ....

Nursing bra are you ordering or buying when LO is here? This may be a silly question, and I am going to wait a while before I get one....but are you ordering your size that you are currently wearing or a getting a bigger size? I want to get a nice underwire nursing bra and a sleep/sports nursing bra for the hospital, and I wasn't sure on the size!  First time mom and sorry if it's a silly question, just wanted some suggestions. Thanks ladies!!!!

Re: What size of ....

  • I was a D before getting pregnant and wore the same bras until literally today.  I just had to go out and buy new ones and I had to get an E!?!?  I was shocked. lol  But motherhood is having a sale right now (well the one by me is anyway)  Buy 3 get one free, and the one my mother just got me was only $20.00.  So I'm ganna go buy three more probably today.

  • I lived in my sleep nursing bras for at least the first two weeks.  Your breasts are so swollen and hard when your milk comes in that it's the only way to be comfortable.  I used a cheap target nursing bra or nursing tanks after that until about 7 weeks.  Then I went and got fitted and bought nice nursing bras because at that point they are more "normalized' in size, if that makes sense.

ETA: I am a B normally, grow to a C while pregnant and was an E while nursing until starting solids and nursing less.

  • I will just be using my tanks for the beginning and then get fitted once my milk comes in.  But, just an fyi, a lot of lactation consultants will tell you not to get an underwire bra.  Some say that they can cause clogged ducts and increase your chance of getting mastitis.
  • I'm waiting as long as possible for that purchase just in case I grow before then. I don't want to spend money on something that doesn't fit when the time comes.
  • I plan to use a couple of nursing tanks and have bought/am buying nice ones of those as I never felt cheap tanks gave me enough support.  I will buy a couple of cheap nursing bras prob right before at the size I am at to a little big and then wait to buy the nice nursing bras till I know my for sure size.  Like another said you shouldn't be wearing an underwire right away anyways.

  • I've been wondering this too. My boobs haven't grown too much thus far (I finally bought new bras last weekend - upgraded from a 34C to a 36D) but I'm sure they'll be considerably bigger when I start nursing so...IDK what to do!

  • I'm going to wait until it gets closer.  I'm between sizes right now anyway, so when I went to buy new ones, they didn't fit right.  Hopefully by maybe 35 weeks, I'll fit into the next size or they'll have a little room.
