3rd Trimester

If you're planning on BFing...

Are you washing/steralizing bottles now before baby is born?  I can't seem to get the motivation to do this...and since I'm planning on exclusively BF'ing anyway, I'm wondering if this is something I can just put off until we introduce a bottle.

Re: If you're planning on BFing...

  • Nope, I dont plan on do that anytime soon.  The baby will be BF exclusively for quite a while so I dont plan on needing bottles for months, if at all.

    DS never took a bottle.

  • I am planning on BFing exclusively too.. I did wash all of my bottles just because if I need to supplement it wont be something I want to do when I get home with the baby.  I will sterilize them all right before I use them.

  • Not planning on sterilizing them until later.  The "plan" is to not introduce a bottle until BF is "established" (whenever that is and whatever parameters you use to determine that)  But we don't want to wait too long to introduce it, because that can cause problems, too, apparently, and DH is planning on feeding her a meal once I go back to teaching lessons at night after a 3 month leave.

So, because we're waiting on introducing bottles, we're gonna wait on sterilizing them.

  • I know breast feeding is hard. I tried it with DS when he was born. I got so discouraged and then had people telling me to just give him a bottle. We had already purchased the bottles and the formula "just incase". This time I got a few bottle but refuse to get the formula or wash the bottle. It's one less temptation I have in front of me. I think that if the bottles are washed and ready, it will be easier for me to give up and give in.
  • I did... doesn't mean I'll use them anytime soon.  But found the time and energy to do it a couple weeks ago.

  • I was already sterlizing my storage containers so I thought might as well sterilize the bottles, nipples, and 2 pacifiers.  They are waiting in the pantry for when we need them.
  • Yes because I will pump and nurse as soon as my milk comes in.  DS never experienced nipple  confusion of any sort...we introduced the bottle as soon as we got home and my milk came in and I was able to pump.
