Everywhere I search states something a little different on how long it takes to get pregnant on average. When asking all my friends with kids, they all seemed to get pregnant right away.
How long after actively trying did you actually get pregnant?
I never ttc on purpose but I did decide to stop taking my BC in November 2009 and Im just 6wks 2mrw..However I was on BC since I was 14yo which makes 10yrs str8 so my doctor explained that it could take longer to get out of my system:)

I think you are finding conflicting information because it truly is different for every woman, I have been blessed and it took me only 2 months the first time, and 3 months this time. But I have a very good friend that has been to countless specialist and they've found nothing wrong and it has taken her 3 + years.
I stopped taking my birth control on April 12 (it was the last pill before I'd start my period). I found out last week that we're expecting, so I didn't even go through a whole cycle! I went to my family doctor Monday to get a referral to an OB and he called me "Fertile Myrtle" lol.
With my 1st child it took us exactly a year. With my current pregnancy
it took us 5 months. But I'll tell you what happened with each....the
month that we got pregnant I used those ovulation test kits. Turned out
I O'd around day 18 each time and so that helped us time things better.
With my 11 month old son it took me about a year, 5 months of which i was on Clomid, with this (surprise) baby I wasn't trying at all. I was off of birth control for about 2 months- not because I wanted to get pregnant but because the BC i was on caused me to spot all month long so I stopped taking it thinking I'd never get pregnant without fertility meds.

Exactly 3 weeks after my mirena was removed I had my positive hpt (urine and blood)... so I didn't have a period before I got pregnant... I was using OPKs and I actually thought they were wrong! But I guess they weren't...
We feel very blessed to have conceived in the first month with our first two and the second month with this pregnancy. I know for some it takes a while, that must be very tough to go through.

It took 9 months of tracking, charting, ovulation strips, blah, blah, blah for DS. This time around we weren't trying, I have only had 3 very random periods since DS was born, and I'm still pumping all his BM. Go figure.

I got pregnant 2 weeks after quitting the pill (I quit during my period). However, I was never very consistant at taking the pill, so it wasn't as effective for me. With my son, I got pregnant after being off the pill for a month and a half. I did actively start trying as soon as I went off the pill, but both times happened sooner than I expected.
Well- it took 2 1/2 years and one IVF later for DS. We chose not to use any birth control since his birth. He is 3 years old now. We went back last July starting up IVF again. So, umm, I'm not sure how to answer your question. Let's just say longer than I wanted it to take :-)
