I'm probably dating myself here, but the original Terminator freaked me out.  So did Blade Runner.  I definitely shouldn't have been watching movies like that, but my parents weren't really good about restricting TV and movies from me.

Another one that freaked me out in early childhood was The Secret of NIMH.  It was a cartoon and all, but it was REALLY dark!

Then later on, horror movies, especially A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween.

Do you ever have one of those moments where you get memories of something from a long long time ago? I just googled this and totally got those! *shutters*

Wizard of Oz. Those flying monkeys really got me.

    Yes! Definitely Wizard of Oz.

And Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory scared me tremendously. When Augustus got sucked up into the tube, all I could think was that he couldn't breathe. And my younger sister would taunt me by singing "Oompa, loompa, doopity doop." I cried every time.

I was definitely the dorky kid whose parents didn't let them watch even semi-scary movies. My parent however sometimes watched Tales From The Crypt after we went to bed. If for some reason I was still awake in my room and could hear that skeleton thing in the beginning, it freaked me out completely.
  • I saw "Bambi" in a drive in movie theater when I was maybe four.  Scared the crap out of me!

  • The Neverending Story scared me. I think it was the wolf in it that I couldn't watch.  I hardly remember anything about the movie now though.
  • I'm on the Labrynth bandwagon.  So creepy!  I still won't watch it.

This is so me! I loved The Witches! When I was about 5 I snuck under the coffee table while my parents watched "It" and after it was over my mom found me crying. Still to this day I dont like to close my eyes in the shower. My mom said after that getting me anywhere near a clown was impossible. lol

The movie that freaked me out the most as a kid was The Gate.  My stepfather took me to see it.  "Is it scary?"  "No!  It has kids in it!"  Thanks, Pops!!

OMG I forgot about The Gate!  That was soooo scary.

Yeah, it may have had kids in it but they found the gate to hell in their backyard!  SO scary!!

I grew up in an old New England colonial that had horse hair plaster walls and those things are bumpy, every time I ran my hand across the wall I thought for sure someone was stuck in there and was going to break out and grab my ankle and drag me in...

OMG!  That would have scared the poop out of me!!  You poor thing.  :o(

Freddy Krueger.  I don't specifically remember watching the movie, but my older brother had a Freddy Kruger glove, and he would hide it so that it would be sticking out from under the bed (and look like Freddy was under there)!

Wizard of Oz. Those flying monkeys really got me.

Good Point! yeah, those were freaky.

my parents also used to watch "Unsolved Mysteries" which was right before my bedtime,  I slept with a huge stuffed pig- and he was always on the outside so if someone came in at night they would shoot the pig and not me.  I was such a paranoid kid.  (not to mention, I don't think stuffing can stop a bullet)

    Eta: Spelling

HAHA I still Can't watch unsolved mysteries! The music is what would really freak me out! I would just hear it coming on and have to leave the room! I also slept with stuffed all around me but it was so nothing could reach up from under my bed and grab me!

"IT" freaked me out too!! Of course, at the time my mom had a clown obsession and kept buying a bunch to put up in my room.  I wasn't allowed to get rid of them until I was about 10. Talk about nightmares. . .

I never watched this as a kid, but just looked it up and remember flipping through channels awhile back and coming across this moving on the Family Channel. I was like "What the Fvck is this?!!?" It was so crazy! I've been trying to find it on TV again so I can record it and watch the whole thing.

  • i LOVE The Witches! I used to watch that movie everyday as a kid! It makes me want to watch it again now! Ha! The movie that freaked me out as a kid was "IT"! I am deathly afraid of clowns because of this movie!

    The Neverending Story scared me.

Ditto! [Spoiler Alert!] The dead unicorn in the quicksand traumatized me as a child. I had nightmares involving quicksand for the better part of my early childhood.

In another genre, I watched Cape Fear at a 6th grade sleepover. Not sure how we got our hands on this one, and it's not like I fully understood the plot at the time, but it sure had me freaked out!

I have two: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (especially that scene on the boat going through that creepy tunnel) and the Wizard of Oz. If I have anything to say about it, my kids will never watch either of those. It squicks me out just thinking about it.

I was not allowed to watch much TV as a kid, so I missed most movies, even though I have never watched it to this day Nightmare on Elmstreet freaked me out, just from the adverts, I am an insomniac as it is and the thought someone could get me in my sleep scared me no end.

Airplane!, when the eggs come out of peoples mouths...I had nightmares about that for months

Chuckie also freaked me out..inanimate objects coming to life...shudders..

  • All Dogs Go To Heaven. Seriously.

I think it was mostly just the whole having to think about what happens after someone loved dies. Still haven't watched it for a second time to this day!

  • Well I suppose my Mom didn't restrict what I watched all that well.. lol. I would have to say the two movies and freaked me out most as a child were Hellraiser:Hell on Earth (When he pulled one of the pins from his head and it had a worm thing on it and shoved it down the guys throat) and Pet Cemetary (Dead animals coming back to life as rabid pets) Admittedly I was 7 and 8 when I saw these movies.

That was so scary, my mom was not happy that Disney was responsible for such a scary movie.  Random funny story about that movie, my sister and I had a Bon Jovi poster in our room but didn't like that he watched us change so we covered his eyes with a white sock, that night I couldn't sleep because he looked like the girl with the blind fold on and I was freaked out.
