I was about to say that DS has been flying internationally and not for over a year and we never needed his birth certificate... but we got his passport(s) right after he was born.
We forgot ours when we flew at Christmas. They let us on through security with no problem. I think they saw us and all of our "stuff" and just didn't want to deal with us...LOL. Good luck!
I didn't think you needed it unless you were flying internationally.... do you have time to pick up another one? For us you can go right to town hall pay the $10 and walk out with an "official copy" I got an extra copy for all the kids when they were born, just in case we lost one!
Agreed! We just got back from our vacation with our daughter on our lap and we were never once asked for her birth certificate. But we all know that TSA is different at every airport. Good luck!
I have had to show proof of age when flying a couple times (even when my DD was obviously under 12 months) so it probably depends on airline (we fly southwest) and airport. I usually don't take the birth certificate and they accept immunization records as proof. Good Luck!
Check with your airline. I know some require it and some don't, it usually says on the website. We didn't need it when we traveled, but I ran across a few airlines that did say they require it when I as looking at the travel regulations for lap infants.
We have flowen many times when DD was under a year and over a year. We have never had to have her birth cert. We always seem to fly United if that makes any difference. Good luck!

The airline should be irrelevant since you would enter security prior to going to a gate that would designate an airline. Normally security is a centralized local. That said, we've never had to provide any info on DS having flown to and from 3 times. All but the last return, DS was under 1. now, we did have a seat for him, so that may make a difference, but it shouldn't.

southwest is the only airline that ever asked us when DD flew as a lap child (and she flew a lot). I had gotten so used to them *not* asking that I totally forgot to have the BC with me, but they accepted an immunization record I had of hers in my purse.
They'll accept a vacination record (the yellow one that your pedi fills out). They will also usually accept a letter from your doctor on letterhead. You need baby "ID" in some airports and not others...it's weird.

I highly doubt anyone will let you fly internationally without a passport. A birth certificate doesn't count in that case because whatever other nation you are traveling to doesn't recognize any ID but the passport.

This is true. You need a passport to fly internationally. I use the passport as proof of age as well since it's easier/more compact that the birth certificate. We fly a lot and I've only been asked for proof of age a few times.
I think some people are getting confused... she doesn't need it for security/identification purposes, she needs it for verification of age, since kids can't fly free on a lap after two and she doesn't want to have to buy a seat.
Whoever mentioned the passport had a good idea - that will verify the age, correct? I flew Southwest with DD and had to verify her age. GL!

Exactly my thought. The passport is compact! And we travel a lot too, since our families are in Europe. DS can be called a 'frequent flyer' with how many miles he has gone through already.
Re: crap! flying Sat with lap child, can't find birth cert!
I've flown with DD twice and they never asked for it.
I hope you find it though! Better to be safe than sorry.
I've yet to take mine for domestic flights.

good luck...we did need ours when we flew last and DS was only 9 months old....
Ditto this. We've been asked every flight (8 total--all various airports). Good luck!

You don't need it on Delta (I called them last week about this).

I hope you find it as it's better to have it and not need it.
Are you traveling with your husband?
So far the baby has flown about 6 or 7 times and twice was international and I was never asked for the birth certificate.
