WWYD- Leaving baby overnight (clicky)

A bunch of friends are going to the beach on Saturday night as a going-away party for the people leaving our school.  We're going, but I'm debating on taking the baby.  She'll be 12 weeks and it's just for Saturday night (she would stay with the nanny).  I'm feeling really nervous about this and wondering if I would have more fun with her there where I can check on her but might not be able to drink/party as much as everyone else, or if I leave her at home where I'll worry but won't have any baby responsibilities for the night.

WWYD?

  • If you trust your nanny, go for it!  We left DS with my parents overnight when DH turned 30 so that we could celebrate and not have to be responsible for a baby.  They were more than happy to take him!  Unfortunately, I had to still worry about pumping and dumping when we got back and then pumping when I woke up after 5 hours of sleep engorged!

If you are worried about this, leave her with the nanny. Personally, I wouldn't leave my baby overnight at 12wks but I know everyone is different. If you are planning on drinking, I would definitely leave the baby with the nanny.

Just an FYI - pumping and dumping doesn't do anything. Once alcohol is out of your system, its also out of your breast milk. You can pump and dump but if you start reproducing milk while alcohol is still in your system, its the same as the milk that you just dumped ;)

This exactly. My twins are 8 weeks old and I'm nervous about leaving them with my MIL for a few hours next week so we can go out to celebrate our anniversary. I'm still not sure if I'm ready to do it. I know I wouldn't be able to leave them overnight.

I know that. I pumped because I hadn't fed LO in 6 hours & dumped because he wasn't home and I drank a lot.  If I waited, I would've been overly engorged.  I pumped again the next morning and saved it :)

  • I left my 12 week old for 5 days while DH and I went to the Bahamas for my work awards trip. I was a wreck, but I knew he was in good hands bc Grandma came and stayed with him. I say go for it, though I personally would leave him with family before a nanny for an overnight trip. BTW, I was also pumping the entire trip to keep up my supply.

  • I say go for it...is there anyway that someone can drive you? I've been designated driver for so long, I think I deserve to be driven around now. We had one good night out since our baby was born. Had 3 drinks woohoo! and then timed out how long afterwards to not feed baby. I read around 2 hrs after drinking...to be on the safe side we waited 4 hrs. I left pumped milk with my mom and it was great.

I was definately engorged and ended up feeding and pumping in the middle of the night. It was like a waterfall! baby could just drink some of it:0
