Stupid Q.. bare with me

Seeing in which I will be 30 weeks (already?!) on Thursday, I have just started making my hospital bag list.. So my question is.. do we need to bring pj's for the baby to sleep in? We plan on bringing DD home in a cute dress.

  • My hospital said that we only need to bring going home clothes for the baby. Others will be provided by the hospital, but check with your hospital.

  • Some people bring some, I didn't with DD.  The hospital had her in a nice top and swaddled.  That was perfectly fine for her.
  • With DS I only brought a going home outfit... He was in a kimono type top and swaddled most of the time... Plus I am a big believer in skin to skin contact and it is so much easier when you can just unwrap LO...

  • when i had my daughter I only brought the coming home outfit and the outfit we were having the pictures done in. The hospital does pics of the baby for those that want them. Other than that she just wore the onesies the hospital had and they swaddled her up nice and tight in their blankets :)

plus the meconium stool they have is pretty sticky and nasty and can get everywhere, so I would rather it on their outfits than my cute ones!

I brought a few outfits for #1 to wear. Every time she would come back from the nursery, they would have her right back in the t-shirt and swaddled. I don't think they were too happy with me Embarrassed

Just a coming home outfit is really all baby needs as far as clothes go Smile

Nope.  You don't need a thing for the baby, other than an outift for pictures/coming home.

I lied.  You need a car seat too.  And maybe a light blanket for going home.

  • It depends on your hospital. Mine provided absolutely nothing for DD1 (except for her very 1st diaper a swaddling blanket and hospital hat. We had to bring all diapers, wipes, baby wash, lotion, vaseline, pj's, clothes, etc.
You might want to inquire at your hospital to find out what is provided.

  • I plan on bringing a couple gowns to put him in case its kind of cold, but that's probably all I'll bring besides his coming home outfit.  Our hospital provides the kimono tops he can wear under the gowns.

In my hospital they had DD in a long sleeved button shirt and diaper, and had her swaddled. We could dress her in jammies if we wanted, but the shirt and diaper were easier for diaper changes and didn't rub on her cord.
