I was all set to claim victory over permanent breathing treatments at the end of the month and Isaac is now having trouble again ever since the weather changes last week. Taking him to the dr today bc even extra treatments aren't resolving his coughing.
I thought it was supposed to get better, not worse. ![]()
Grrrrr.
Re: Asthma Moms
My kids don't have asthma, that I know of, but wanted to give you lots and lots of hope. I had asthma really bad all the way up until the end of high school. I had three different inhalers and had to be hospitalized once because of an attack. BUT now I'm fine. I don't even have an inhaler. I can feel the pollution bother me and I know my boundaries when exercising but I'm fine.
Just wanted to give you hope and encouragement that even if the asthma is bad, eventually most kids grow out of it.
Isaac has been on some sort of nebulizer treatment since November. About the end of February we FINALLY kicked out the pneumonia and March and April were awesome with the Pulmicort once a day with the occasional xopenex added when he had some coughing and it always knocked it right out. This latest bout is pretty nasty. He's been coughing all day long for three days and Xopenex hasn't touched it much but he had a treatment in the office today and the wheezing subsided. Unfortunately about 30 minutes later its right back. Only 30 minutes to his next treatment so hopefully he will get some relief. At the dr his pulse ox was 100% so at least that isn't taking a hit yet.
So its Xopenex every 4-6 hrs around the clock 2 days then stepping down unless he progresses - which would be bad. Pulmicort is continued to infinity and beyond it seems.
Danielle- Several of my family members are lifelong sufferers of asthma and they have had symptoms come and go. Although I seem to have dodged the bullet so far it seems to run in my family. However, Isaac is getting a much earlier start than anybody else so far.
