How's it going with the mites? I brought the girls back and we slept at home Friday night but the next morning I found bites on both of them and a bug on the older one. Back to my mother's house we went. Yesterday we set off some of the Raid flea and bedbug bombs cause they were the closest we could find to mites. Today I came home to clean and found some dead mites on the windowsill where we set of the bombs. I'm hoping that has taken care of them but am not certain. Have you had any luck? Still getting bites?

    Hey there:  Sorry you haven't had any success with them =(   So far, my son hasn't had any new bites because we threw out his matress and his bed room has been treated really well but I'm still getting bit, so today I'm going to throw out my mattress and  we will sleep on an air bed till this is resolved.    Wednesday I'm due for a repeat treatment to get any eggs that may have hatched since the first treatment.(Eggs survive extermination)  I'm hoping this will be the end of it.  What is your exterminator telling you? Does he have experience with bird mites?  I'm trying to stay away from reading too much on the internet, because that website birdmite.org is soooo depressing.  I haven't seen any live bugs since thursday. Keep me updated =) It's encouraging to have  someone else fighting this battle with me  =)  Take Care!

    Don't read birdmites.org, I think a lot of it might be false. From what I read on a university's page they can't survive without bird blood. They bite people to test and see what they are. I'm still deciding whether to throw out the mattresses. Not sure yet. Neither of the exterminators that examined the house seemed too concerned, but only time will tell if we really got rid of them.
