I'm confused on how the SSI names and names on this list translate into real life. I grew up with a common 1980's name that always meant I had 2 or 3 in my class, and I don't want the same for my kid. However, I also want a nice, easy to pronounce name that won't get them made fun of.
DH and I LOVED Noah a couple years back, but now it's made it's way into the top 10, so it's out. We then were set on Liam, which we still love. However, it's been jumping up the ranks on the SSI list and I see SO many Liams or future ones on this board. Yet I've never met any or heard the name thought of in my area of the country (SE US). What "number" on the SSA list means that kid will likley have another in their class? Top 100? Top 50? Top 25?? How many baby Liams do you know IRL??
Re: How many Liams do you know IRL?
Besides my DS, I don't know any others Liams. It's a great name, not that I'm biased or anything.
Our Liam is just Liam, not William with the nn Liam.

I think it's likely a name with a lot of regional variation.. I'm from about 30 miles from you, and I think our area may be a little slower on the uptake than trendier areas of the country, like New England or the west coast..
Anyway, that's what I was afraid of. I still love the name and DH is hard to find any agreement with on names.. but we shall see!

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
i know 3 Liams:
5 yrs old
2 1/2 yrs old
2 yrs old
As a mother of a 6 year old, between soccer and kindergarten I know 5 Liams.
As an 8th grade teacher I have 2 this year.
I know of three aged 5 and under, all from different circles of acquaintances.
But keep in mind that a top 10 name today, statistically, is a far lower percentage of kids than a top 10 name even twenty years ago. Liam is a respectable name...use it if you like it.
