Cloth Diapering

Help! Can DD be allergic to cloth?

Can this be possible?

Backstory:   DD is always getting yeast rashes and diaper rashes in general.   She'd recently been on antibiotics for 10 days, in sposies, and I gave her a probiotic and for the first time ever she wasn't all yeasty after the meds.  So we go back to cloth.  For ONE DAY.  By the next morning she's got the little red bumps and now she's just tore up.

I wash all the dipes in bleach after a yeast break out, so I don't think she's getting reinfected.  What in the world?

I can't seem to get her back into cloth for more than a few days.  We've spent so much on disposables lately I could have bought like two more whole stashes for the new baby by now.

Any thoughts?

  • some kids are allergic to the microsuede. Are you using natural fibers (hemp/cotton) or man-made materials against the skin?

  • Are you using BGs? They have suede cloth and some are allergic to this material.

  • Or is it the detergent?  Finally, the fourth one I tried worked...Planet.

He really broke out with Tide.

What's your detergent and wash routine? What diapers are you using? We need more details to be helpful.

  • Sorry all, the internet went out.

As for diapers we use a mix of FBs, HHs, and BG organics.  We do use some BGs a few AIOs and BG4s, but they're a relatively new addition to our stash so I don't think that's it.  She's been rashy forever.

Wash, I have a FL and I do a cold short wash, hot wash w/ extra h20 and extra rinse, cold rinse w/ extra h20.  I use Rocking Green and occasionally bleach if she has had yeast.

Oh and I use flushable liners.

  • I've actually heard the flushable liners can irritate some babies. A friend used them briefly on her daughter and had to stop because they were giving her a reaction.

I'd strip them and switch detergents for a while to see if that helps. Might be the RnG.

  • I'm not positive but I think my DS has reactions when we use RNG.  That *could* be your issue.

  • We're switching detergents, my DD seems to be sensitive to RnG.
