Trying to Get Pregnant

temping concern...

I started temping yesterday morning when AF showed up. My plan is to temp at 7:30 in the morning because that's what time I would like to start getting up. My problem lies in the fact that I can not sleep until my alarm goes off.. ever. My body must think I'm a heavier sleeper than I am because I wake up like a half hour or so before the alarm and both mornings I tossed and turned waiting for the alarm so I could do it at the same time. So instead of waking up around 9 like normal I have been up by 6:30-7 both days.

Is it more important for it to be at the same time every day or for it to be immediately when I wake up? I sleep with it under my pillow so I don't have to get up to take it, but I feel like trying to fall back asleep until my alarm goes off might be counter productive, and I'd rather not wake up at like 4 am because then my concern will be forgetting or something plus I have trouble falling back to sleep.

Re: temping concern...

  • i have the same kind of issues. i asked this a couple days ago, and the ladies advised me to focus on taking it at the same time everyday, even if i had a few wake ups in the night. i have yet to get a solid dot on my FF chart, but i am working on it!

  • Definitely temp at the same time if you can.  I temp about an hour later on the weekends and FF gives me open circles.  I keep thermometer right next to the alarm clock on the nightstand.  GL!

You should temp immediately upon waking after 3 solid hours of sleep, and ideally at the same time every day.  Why not set your alarm for 6:30, temp, and then go back to sleep till you need to get up?

Because I have issues falling back to sleep after my alarm goes off, so I'd probably end up getting up at 6:30 every day which is a bit early for me.

Same time everyday is more important I would say. As long as you can see the over all trend of your chart instead of the individual temps you'll be all set :) GL!

  • I temp when I wake up, whether it's naturally or with my alarm. I give FF the time, take the open circle (if applicable) and let it figure it out. It's calibrated to take that into consideration and I figure that's what I pay it for. I don't have issues pinpointing ovulation.

  • Thanks ladies! I will keep doing it at 7:30 for this cycle and if it seems wonky at the end of the cycle I will do it earlier next month and see how that works.

  • I do this as well. My alarm is set for 5:15 am and I always wake up before my alarm anywhere from 4:00-5:00 in the morning. I always take the temps as soon as I wake up, then I go back to sleep until my alarm goes off. Yes, I have had some open circles on FF, but last cycle my O date was very clear and it was fine.
