Toddlers: 24 Months+

*court0026* (car screaming question)

I saw that you put #2 in a convertible to help with crying.  Do you feel like it made a big difference or just a little?  My DD is almost 2 1/2 months and she HATES riding in the car (she's ok w. her carseat in the stroller).  She doesn't just cry in the car, but rather screams and it doesn't help if the car is moving or not like most babies.  I have started to limit the activities w. DS to things that are within 20ish min. from our house bc that's just about as long as I feel comfortable letting DD "cio".

I've adjusted the straps in the carseat as well as the incline just in case it's a tummy issue, but it did squat (we have the Graco Safe Seat from DS).  Tried music, static on the radio, windows open, putting her in the carseat sleepy or asleep (this kind of works 1/2 the time for about 15-20 min.).  I feel bad for my 2 1/2 year-old DS bc it's obviously starting to stress him out.  He hears her starting to fuss and actually said "Oh no, here we go" the other day!  :)  I'm ordering a shade for the back window as well as a mirror that lights up and has a remote that I can control as my last resort before trying our Britax Boulevard (I like the convenience of the infant seat when dropping off/picking up DS from preschool and stuff).

Sorry if this got too long, I'm just at my wit's end and ended up in tears today over DD's car screaming.

Re: *court0026* (car screaming question)

  • So sorry you are going through this too!  She screamed every time we were in the car no matter what.  It was awful and I cried a lot too.  She cried in general for about 5.5 months for whatever reason, but the car was particularly awful.  The bigger seat made a big difference.  I was skeptical, but we had 1 for DS in each car, so we just put both in mine and tried it out for a week.  She would still cry off and on on long car rides, but it was a ton better.  The big mirror seemed to help because she could see my face sort of in the rear view.  It was awful.  However, I know what you mean.  It was a LONG LONG LONG winter of having to get her in and out of that darn thing.  Tricky with a toddler, but worth it.  I put her in the Bjorn a ton to ease transitions to and from the car, but I still had to always put her in first (we have an SUV and DS can't get in himself).  Also, poor DS.  Mine would cover his ears, but eventually got used to it.  UGH.  And good luck!  If it makes you feel any better, my DD is about the sweetest thing now and she doesn't make a peep in the car :)  Let me know how it goes!
