Hi ladies,
I really like the name (NN?) Finn, but am not a fan of the longer names that it might be a NN for: Finnegan, Finian, et.al. Phineas is okay, but we would choose Finn partially for its Irish roots and background and they're not really the same name.
Do you think Finn can stand on it's own or needs to be short for something? MN will be either Oliver or James (family names) and our last name is a Mc-----.
Re: Can Finn Stand Alone?
Agreed. Finn is one of my favorite boy names
Mommy's little helper
It absolutely does. It is a legit full name and has been for an incredibly long time.
If you're not too sure though, what about Fintan? Or you could use Fionn as an alternative?
I do, but it's our nephew's name!
what about Finnbar? It is an Irish name I think (it might have a double r at the end, I would have to look it up).
Anyways, Finn might be ok alone (similar to Jack in my mind) but it is a nickname, so people will likely ask what the full name is and as long as you are ok with correcting them and saying, there is no full name, it is just Finn, then I think it is fine:)
Finn is cute! Although I always think of Huck Finn:)
it can but all i think of is:

While Finn is used as a nickname, it is a name in its own right and in fact many of the Irish names like Finbar (no double n, no double r) and Finnegan stem from it, not the other way around.
