Overdue and NST tomorrow

I am 3 days past my due date and my MW has me scheduled for a NST tomorrow AM at the hospital.  For some reason I am scared that I will go do this NST and they will end up wanting to keep me there and induce, which I am trying to avoid.  I realize that if my baby is in danger then being induced is medically necessary and I wont fight them on it.  I am hoping that the NST results are good and that I can just wait until LO decides when he wants to show up.

Anyone been in this situation?

  • I'm at 40w2d, and I'm going in for my first NST tomorrow also. I'm a little nervous, like you, thinking that if anything looks at all iffy, they're going to want to keep me at the hospital to start an induction. BUT, I've had a really smooth pregnancy so far, and our LO is still moving very regularly in there, so I have no reason to believe that anything will look out of the ordinary.

I'm hoping everything goes really smoothly tomorrow and both of us can just keep on waiting it out until our LOs decide to make an appearance on their own.

  • I have had a smooth pregnancy and LO is still moving around a ton, so I am hoping that the NST doesn't show anything is "off" as well.

Good luck wth your NST tomorrow!

I'm five days past my due date, and my MW also scheduled me for an NST at the hospital tomorrow.  They're definitely going to discuss induction at the test, but I'm hoping that the results won't necessitate an immediate induction.  I'd really like to go until 42 weeks before inducing.

I guess the only thing I can say is to stick to your guns if the test doesn't show any signs of fetal distress.  Don't be afraid to ask them to hold off on an induction for a while longer to allow your baby time to make an appearance on his own!

  • Yes and this reminds me. I have to call and make my appointment. Thanks for reminding me :) I hope that everything goes normal with yours! I've had a few lately and they have all been normal so lets hope the same goes for this next one.
  • I went through that! I had an NST and ultrasound at 41 weeks. The u/s showed low fluid levels and they scheduled an induction for the next day! Which I wanted to avoid as well. I ended up going into labor two hours before the induction and everything happened naturally! Hope the same for you!

I've been having a NST every week since 37 weeks, the last one was yesturday. Each time - everything has been fine and the docs really don't want to induce unless they have to (maybe some are quicker than others to want and do this). We are going to head in Sunday for induction if nothing happens by then. Don't worry - I'm sure everything will be fine. If not, then they are doing the best thing for the baby.
