For the last 2 nights, DS put himself to sleep. After bathtime/jammes/story, he hugged me and waved bye-bye, walked into our bedroom and fell asleep on the crib mattress we have on the floor. All by himself.
Of course, in revenge he woke up at midnight wanting to play (and torturing our poor kitty, who should be sainted)... but I'm still amazed. Everyone said we had to let him cry or he'd never learn to sleep on his own, and I was starting to wonder if they were right.... but he figured it out, all by himself. (no judgment for those who did CIO, every family is different)
He did it for his nap this afternoon too - just waved to DH, went into the room and fell asleep.
Kids are so freaking cool!
Re: AW: He's putting himself to sleep.
Awesome!
My son did the same around that age. One day I was rocking him and he pointed to the crib, I put him in and he put himself to sleep. That was it.
Makes me a firm believer that kids figure things out when they're ready.
