My DD is MISERABLE. She is getting a bunch of molars. I can see the molars coming through, and DD is gnawing on her hands. Like her whole hand in her mouth.
Is there anything I can give her to help? (other than tylenol etc). Something to chew on? I've heard of frozen bagels, but I am trying to think of something that would replace her sticking her hand in her mouth and gnawing on it. I feel awful for her. My first baby was never miserable like this, the teeth didn't all come in at the same time like this.
Re: Teething relief for 1.5 year old
When DS starts cutting teeth (he is finally finished with the molars but now he is cutting his eye teeth) I give him as much orajel as I can and only give him tylenol when he is running a fever. Sometimes he will take the frozen wet rag trick (put a cool wet rag in the freezer and let them chew on that), if that doesn't work I just let him gnaw on whatever makes him feel better!
GL!! These are some rough times!
I've heard great things about Amber teething necklaces. They don't chew on them, but the Amber is an anti-inflammatory. As it is soaked into their skin it helps relieve some pain. I have not tried them, but going off friends that have used them both on their kids and themselves and have seen almost immediate results.
Google it. There are some risks because they have to wear it which could be a choking hazard, but it is something that isn't just a 5 minute numbing solution like orajel. If she isn't in as much pain she may not gnaw as much.
<sigh> my formerly gorgeous leather couch. it's covered in teeth marks <sigh> I couldn't save it...
On a more serious note: I prefer teething tablets and Motrin (since Motrin will have anti-inflammatory action that tylenol does not have). I have read about the amber teething necklace but since my LO seems to perpetually hang/hook herself on the neck of her t-shirts (I have no idea how she manages to do this but she does...) I decided not to take my chances, but I've heard good things.
Food remedies: Cold cucumber slices and celery sticks seem to be our favorites for gnawing on things
Other object remedies: Gerber makes some very soft flexible spoons that I put in the freezer. They don't stay cold for very long but according to LO they can get back there to that one spot that needs the most scratching and they really are soft and short enough that I don't mind letting LO carry one around with her. Cold toddler toothbrushes have been an interesting help but I make LO sit down with me while she chews on the toothbrush. Lastly, water filled teethers that have been frozen and have a shape conducive to reaching the molars, and I switch them out every 15 minutes. I have a stash of about 20 in a bag in my freezer - the gerber spoons and toothbrushes are kept there too...better for me if these objects all collect in the same area for the next teething round...
