ETA: I think that's what you call a new mom who thinks they're a photographer. I might be wrong lol.
my first thought.
My second thought is the photographer who did So's Autumn pictures had a back drop that was brown with these other tones that kind of gave a wrinkled look. She was a good photographer, but that backdrop was hideous
It's just a crappy DIY background. I'm totally a "momtographer", but I splurged for the stand & seamless paper.
If you're going to do it, do it right!
There's NO WAY I'm "splurging" for any stand and seemless paper to take a few pics on a holiday. I wanted a pic of every "first" holiday so I took a few in the morning before going to work. If I had a v-day blanket or a christmas blanket I threw it in there but if I didn't it was just the onesie or bib saying "my first thanksgiving".
I also am NOT a "mom-tographer" by any means and I HATE most things DIY. If I wanted a professional picture I would take him to get a professional picture but I don't think a pic of a baby on a blanket is "tacky"...is it????
If you're only taking pictures randomly for like holidays and stuff I think that's fine. But if you take a lot of pictures and try to look all professional and what not then I think a blanket is tacky. Especially something like a wrinkled sheet. I mean at least iron the thing.
I don't want to link anyone's pictures here but yeah, cassies's is what I was thinking of. That one is cute though because it's a theme.
I don't get the plain, wrinkled ones.
Dreamsicle, where do I get the stand and seamless paper?
I got my stand on EBay for about $40. I get seamless paper from adorama.com. It's kind of procey but makes a really nice background.
I'm more worried about how hard it is. Can a beginner figure it out?
Yup it's super easy. Check out the Photography board. There are tons of threads with how-to's, and a lot of the regulars over there have great blogs with lots of info.
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
What kind of standards are these? I'm lucky if I can get a good shot of the girls without some random toy or burpcloth in the background, let alone unwrinkled sheets for a backdrop.
::walks out of post mumbling to myself::
Unable to even.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

No, it's practical. You don't have to show off with every single thing you do. It's ok to be practical.
