anyone tried an SI Belt for back/hip pain?

my physical therapist suggested one yesterday for the back/hip pain i've been having.  has anyone tried one of these?  any success with it working?

  • That's so funny, because last year when I was having SI problems my physical therapist said she doesn't usually recommend them because she's found they're not all that effective.  I just kept working on a bunch of SI stretches instead.  I wonder if pregnancy means more support is necessary.

  • I got one of those Babies R Us Maternity support belt.bands. I was having some pain in my abdomen. I think it's a hernia. But once I started wearing it, it helped immensely. I took off the strap that goes over the belly and just have the under belly and back supports. It's great.

It says it's supposed to help butt, leg and abdomen pain, so I'd think this would work for you.

yeah, the way my PT explained it is that due to all the Relaxin (hormone that makes your joints relax to get ready to push out a baby) it can cause your body to get out of wack easier.  so the SI belt helps hold your hips and everything together better.  (this is obviously a very non-technical way of explaining it :-)

  • I started wearing one yesterday and can already tell a difference. The physical therapist suggested wearing it during the day and sleep in it. It's awkward but worth it.
  • i bought one to use at work because my lower back is really bothering me.  it really does help.
