Re: opinion on canned or micro'd foods

  • I'm sure it's just fine. I've continued to microwave foods and have eaten canned green beans. I've never heard anything about pg women not being allowed to eat these foods.

Unless, of course you are that cray cray from 1st tri yesterday... I know some of you saw that mess Surprise

  • Both should be fine.  Some people have concerns about eating food that is microwaved on plastics as it can leech some chemicals onto your food.  I try to microwave my meals on real dishes.

The most important thing is to get those nutrients in you.  If canned makes it possible, go for it.

  • The only thing I would warn is to limit canned foods because of the BPA in the lining of canned foods... the more acidic the food (like tomatoes and citrus fruits) the higher the leaching of BPA in the food consumed.

When ever possible opt for frozen or fresh.

Never heard anything risky about using the microwave... so longs as you dont nuke using plastic... class or ceramics is best!  Again this is to prevent chemicals leaching into your food.  This stuff is not just when pregnant either...

  • I am trying to do fresh foods as much as possible. That's not to say that I haven't had some things that are canned. I don't normally do microwave meals, so that isn't a problem for me.

  • I don't do canned fruits/veggies strictly because I prefer frozen or fresh (and don't dig the sodium) and I am that mega hippie who doesn't have plastic storage containers in the house (we're painfully green people tell me) BUT, I've never been concerned about them in terms of being ok in pregnancy, go ahead and enjoy, as long as you are getting some nutrients in you! :)

Same here. We don't own a microwave, but I occasionally use the one at work. I think Eden Organic brand canned items do not contain BPA. When I buy canned beans, etc, I get that brand. Ditto PPs about using glass or ceramic in the microwave.
