Part-time In Home Day Care??

Does this exist?

LO is due in Aug. I will stay home for 3 months and then DH will stay at home through the winter (his job is seasonal)... after that I am weighing my options. MIL is willing to take him a couple of days, but not full-time. Do you know if there are daycares that have flexible options. Most of the ones I see are full-time only.

We may consider just doing full-time daycare instead, but it would be nice to save the money having MIL take the baby a couple days. Thoughts?

  • They exist, but you will probably have to call and ask about PT care, they don't typically advertise it.  It is also even more of a possibilty if you have a set schedule, not varied days each week.

I have also heard about people who share a FT spot.  So your child would go say M,T and W and the other person's child would go Th and F.

My DD is in an unlicensed daycare (a friend of ours) and she lets me pay per day.  My MIL watches her Mondays and she goes to daycare T-F.  If DH has a day off she doesn't charge me and if she take a day off I don't get charged.

P.S. Your dog is so freaking cute!

  • It does - we're in 2 days a week at an in-home. It exists but it's rare. Ours is in S Mpls - feel free to PM me if you want her number, although it's a little early to reserve a spot for next spring.

When I was looking I actually put out an ad on Craigslist to do what PP said, I need Tues/Thurs, and another lady was going to take MWF for a full time spot. We started looking at daycares together and people were very willing to talk to us. Strangely I found the part time care opening through looking for full time care with her.

There are some centers that do part time, but for a cost. I think We Love Kids, Jardin Magico (8+ month waiting list) and Kindercare all do part time, but you definitely pay for it too (I think Kindercare was like $100/day, and for two days we could get a week of care at an in-home).

    Good luck!

I have actually found quite a few in home daycares that do this - just ask around.

  • There is one PT only in-home near me in NE mpls. She's only open M-W, so I never looked into it more. Her website (yes, she has a website) seemed great, but we needed FT. PM me if you need her info - I hope I can find it again :)
