Breastfeeding pillow

Hi Ladies,

One of the last things I need to get is a breastfeeding pillow. I'm torn between the Boppy and the Breastfriend. We have our glider and the back support on it is perfect for breastfeeding (well according to my breastfeeding book) so I'm hesitant to use a Breastfriend which adds more back support. If you plan to breastfeed, what have you bought? Second time moms who breastfed, what do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I used the Breastfriend and LOVED it! The back support isn't overwhelming. Bring it to the hospital when you deliver. You'll be thankful for the back support/strap because you won't have to arrange it as you learn how to feed your little one.

  • IMO, it's very individual, so if it's possible, borrow one of each and try them! We didn't have one at all when DS arrived so the birth center's LC lent us a Boppy and a Breastfriend. One of my gfs swore by the Bobby, but I found DS kind of slipped down between the pillow and my body. But the Breastfriend was great for me. We gave them back and bought our own BFriend, which I'll be using again this time. So if you can, try both!

  • I love and love our Boppy and HATED the Brest friend. It felt super awkward to me. This time, I'm getting a Bosom Babies, which our local LLC sells at her store and swears by and I've sat with it in my lap and I dig it. Granted, I haven't nursed DS on it, it seems like it's going to work out well for the new baby.

  • I had the boppy with my first two. It was ok, but not great. This time I will be getting the Brest friend. I hope it works better for me.
  • I love my Boppy and was never a fan of the Breastfriend.  I definitely think you should try them both out if you can before you decide on purchasing one.

I bought the MyBrestFriend based on recommendations from friends. I have some back issues, so I thought the support would be good for me.

I hadn't thought about bringing it to the hospital. That's really good advice!

I registered for the BFriend based on recommendations from friends. I liked the idea of a strap to hold it in place, but we'll see. I might hate it.

  • If you can, get both.  My brestfriend is awesome for breastfeeding and the boppy is great for when you need to put your LO down.  I used the boppy all the time when I needed to set my ds down for a minute and not worry about him rolling.

  • Most of my friends use & like the boppy; I was given one from a friend who is done w/ having kids.  One of my friends who is due 9 days b4 me registered for the bestfriend one but obviously she hasn't used it yet...

I used the breast friend, only b/c it was given to me by a friend. It worked fine, and was really helpful once DD started getting heavier but couldn't sit up yet. I haven't tried the Boppy though, so I can't really compare them. The breast friend seems a lot firmer, so I would think it would give more support.

I prefer the brest friend, hands down.

I've heard this advice from friends.

I'm a FTM, but I registered for both.  I justify it on the basis of our having two floors and not wanting to have to use stairs to get it; I figure I'll end up with a favorite that I'll keep on the main floor.
