XP: Convertible seat to RF in small car (Dodge Caliber)

Hi Ladies!

I am posting this here as well as on the baby gear board, since most of the ladies over there don't even have babies yet and are just going mad for strollers and diaper bags! :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

My LO is threatening to outgrow his infant seat, so I need to purchase a convertible seat as soon as possible.

I am anticipating rear-facing him as long as I can get away with it for safety purposes, so high RF limits are important to me.

My problem is my dinky little car.  I tried putting a friends Safety 1st max air in, to see if it fit, and not even close.  Our other vehicle is an SUV, so I'm not worried about it, but my H hates driving the car, so I definitely need a seat that fits in the Caliber.

Anyone with this car or a similar one have any suggestions as to a good seat for me?  Thanks in advance!

We have the Caliber SRT-4 and our Britax Roundabout fits. You have to have the passenger seat moved up a little more than usual though.

  • We have a Taurus and Nitro but DH is really tall so the seat has to be back quite a bit for him to drive and ride along.  We have the Cosco Scenera convertible.  Its not bulky like some of the others.  it was highly recommended by Consumer Report and it $50-$60 bucks from Target and BRU.

  • DH drives a Ponatic Sunfire as his daily driver and we have the evenflo symphony 65.
DS has acid relux and milk protein allergy, and had torticollis, used to EP, now we FF . April siggy 3-6 month

  • We have an extended cab truck and have a combi coccoro (or maybe corroco) and it fits great! We can have the seats as far back as we want and it comes in lots of fun colors (oh and has great safety ratings).

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  The car seat database is great, but doesn't have much info for my car with respect to rear facing, unfortunately.

If I can get a deal on a Britax, I think that is the way to go.  Unfortunately, they are way expensive here in Canada, and rarely go on sale.

I have also heard good things about the Evenflo triumph and the First Years True Fit as safe and well-priced options.  Has anyone had success cramming them into their small car?
